re: So how would you tactfully tell your girl she needs to drop a few pounds?

Well are you giving the new mom opportunities to have time to work out? That's a trickier situation. Some women just more easily bounce back to normal after having a baby and some need more help. And did she eat for two all the time while pregnant and gain way more weight than she should have? That will factor into how quickly she loses weight afterwards as well.
ETA: Obviously I don't have personal experience with this. But I'm someone overly obsessed with my weight and likely gonna get pregnant soon so I've done extensive research on this recently. It's gonna be tough for me to allow myself to gain a bunch of weight while pregnant, it will seriously mess with my head.

Need any help? Would you like to practice?
Mrs Cove gained 70 lbs with each of the two kids. She was back down to fighting weight inside of a year each time. She has always hovered around the 98-105lb range when not carrying my spawn. Also, nursing takes the weight right off.

Progress, whether slow or fast, is progress.

Did you buy her some +2s?

That's wayyy too much. It's recommended you only gain 25-35 lbs if you were normal weight before you were pregnant...maybe up to 54 max if you are pregnant with twins.

Yeah I've heard/read this as well. I'm trying to lose more weight now so that all I need to lose after I have a kid is the baby weight. Also if I'm active now before I get pregnant....my doctor will allow me to continue working out when I'm pregnant(obviously with some limitations).

quote:Know a girl who has serious issues with her weight. Been treated for anorexia. Got pregnant. Her doctor told her to eat more. She refused. She went through multiple doctors telling her the same thing before she found one that didn't. She looked awful at her shower. Baby was born a little early and was so small. She was producing milk and breastfeeding but there was no nourishment in it. Poor kid wasn't gaining any weight. They had to convince her to stop breastfeeding and go to formula. Don't be her.

Oh no, def won't be her! I love to eat and I always struggle with my diet. I could never be anorexic. I've just gained a lil bit of weight since I got married and am obsessed over that.
If/when I do get pregnant I'm already gonna be a nervous wreck because of my age and all. So I'll be sure to follow ANY recommendations my doctor gives me, including diet and recommended weight gain. Just meant I'm not gonna allow the pregnancy to be an excuse to "eat for two". Many pregnant women think you can just eat all you want when you are pregnant and that isn't the case.

She swole up with the water weight. Summers in Memphis while 8-9 mos pregnant are rough. Anyhow, she was fine and both kids were perfect. She dumped the LBS quickly and everything was back to normal in under a year each time. I chose well. Then again, Mrs Cove is far, far better than all These Skanks around here.

Also, walk around the block with the baby stroller daily. It's great for you and baby. It melts right off when you get outside.
Also, good luck!

quote:The NP at my doctor's office said to limit tuna and salmon. I was like, why salmon? She goes, "oh you know, the big fish. It has to do with mercury levels." I just laughed and was like, ok. She's soooo wrong. I hate that they are telling people this.

Wow, quick google shows salmon is one of the lowest in mercury levels. As well as canned tuna
I trust my doctor, been seeing her for years and she is just awesome. Also...she was pregnant and had a healthy child in her late 30s so I feel I can trust her more cause she has personal experience with it.

Well I love to hike so I'll likely do some basic easy flat trails with baby. I see women on the trails with these all the time.

Is she wearing long cargo shorts?
Posted on 2/23/15 at 11:03 am to lsunurse
If you do it in those shorts, you won't have to worry about a second baby.
Posted on 2/23/15 at 11:08 am to The Sad Banana
I don't wear shorts like that....just wanted to show you the baby carrier she has on. I only hike in yoga pants and cute tops or tshirts fwiw.

Buy five or six cheap scales and just leave them around various parts of your house that she frequents with permanent ones in front of the fridge and in the pantry

Get that truck backing up beeping sound on your phone and play it every time she walks

Thanks OT. I needed a good laugh this morning.
The only serious answer I can provide is to do something active together. And cook healthy meals for the two of you. If that doesn't work, then nothing will. My wife just isn't an active person. She has some health issues that affect her but other than that she is healthy. Sure, she's a mother of 2 in her early 30s, and could stand to lose 10-15 lbs, but any more and she would look too skinny. She knows it. I know it. Hell I could lose about 20-25 myself. We have tried the gym together thing. It doesn't work for us. It has to be some other activity, like riding bikes or jogging at the park near the house.
Also this may just be the time of year. Winter is rough on people. Desk jobs, too cold to get out and run regularly, holiday foods, it all adds up. I worked for a CPA firm that would feed us all a fatty dinner every night at 6:00 during busy season. I gained about 15-20 lbs every February to April. Worked it off in the summer.
