SNL was born as an anti-establishment voice, it became a part of the establishment when Lorne started producing movies and TV shows with cast members and the money got too good. now it is just another corporate driven platform that doesnt want to offend anyone
to me it is a show written by ~30 year olds, performed by ~30 year olds for ~30 year olds that live in NE big cities

And comedy largely sucks today
Hard to argue with this. You used to be able to watch something funny - or at least very amusing - on TV every single night. There was always a good comedy in theatres. And there were lots of great standups touring the country.
The decline and death rattle of SNL is merely a symptom of a larger disease. The very notion of comedy in entertainment has been poisoned and ruined.

They're catering to a group of people who are waging war against comedy. They have painted themselves into a corner where most everything is off limits. That's what you get when feelings trump humor.
frick em. Let them continue to wallow in the pile of shite they've created.

bet 90 percent of comedians today are liberal. ESPECIALLY by todays standards. I don't know what you are talking about.
That literally changes nothing about what I said.

The current humor culture is so narrow that it doesn’t allow for much room to actually be funny without offending someone.
So they play it safe
The joker is suppose to be free to say anything in the name of humor

Gave it a shot to see how the new cast members would perform after several talented departures. It was the worst I've ever seen by far, which is hard to beat b/c I've watched many of them since their start in the 70's with the original, now legendary members.
Instead of straight up comedy and satire (there are plenty of targets) they've painted themselves into a box by producing "statement" skits and booking "controversial" no talent musical guests.
You'd expect a mostly new cast, distributed evenly across the nowadays acceptable color and gender roles, would take a while to get into a groove. It's cringe worthy though when it's simply not funny in any sense at all.
I've always enjoyed Weekend Update spearing everyones sacred cows. So, will record around just that portion and ignore the rest. It's flat out awful viewing, and not entertaining whatsoever.

Apparently the consensus is it officially died (after years in a coma) when Kate McKinnon sang "Hallelujah" after Trump won, totally straight, without a hint of irony or comedy
This is probably the most tone deaf, self righteous, narcissistic, out of place, pathetic stunt I ever witnessed on a television program: For those who haven’t seen it
You left out that she was dressed like Hillary Clinton and ended the song by looking into the camera and saying “I’m not giving up. And neither should you.”
That wasn’t some goofy improvised skit that backfired. It was the open to the show. She had to sit in a room full of actors and writers and they all agreed that would be the best cold open. Then the head writer and the higher ups all agreed. Then they practiced it a few times and at no point did anyone come to their senses.
It’s not just that skit. It’s the totality and the effort and people involved in making it happen that proved that SNL is dead.

The Please Don't Destroy stuff is funny.
The rest is filled with "non-offending" comedy which sucks.
The best comedy offends. They're afraid to that anymore unless it offends a right winger.
It's too bad.

I’d watch it off and on when nothing else was on but that all changed after the 2016 election. When they came out playing the piano with Hallelujah and acting like someone died that did me in. Comedy is supposed to be neutral and fun but that proved they were just a mouthpiece for the left.

Yeah they fricking suck. Even on the rare occasion they can squeeze out a laugh they fricking suck.
You aren't going to see these guys and gals headline any blockbuster comedy movies that's for fricking sure.
When was the last time SNL produced someone who actually went on to have even moderate success? Andy Samberg from fricking 2012?
