I remember when you could use Encarta for a book report and it be a single authoritative source.

I also remember going to the library was your only option for entertainment with Mrs. Cathy from Plaquemine reading us stories during the summer.

My favorite toy was the dinosaur puzzles because you could see their bones when you took the pieces out.

I'm 31 but I'm not a millennial.

Oh I get it. These are the reasons why I keep FB and Instagram.

Do I need 4 or 5 different avenues for this though?

Yeah I'm still waiting to hear what Snapchat does that Instagram doesn't do for normal picture sharing. I'm not being antagonistic, I just don't get it

My wife has Snapchat and the only value for it seems to be the fact that it will entertain my 4 year old if/when needed

She loves those filters

I guess it depends. Facebook is great for staying in touch with family because it's the most used platform by all ages. Instagram, in my opinion, is more about following people you don't know and experiencing high levels of FOMO. Snapchat is really only good for nudes & Weekend Schemers.

I don't use Twitter, but it's probably the best outlet for quick, raw news on the planet. They rest are just spinoffs that will either be bought my Zuckerburg or fail (Snapchat is heading towards failure)

Same. I don't understand it. Why the frick do I want a cartoon rainbow coming out somebody's mouth? I don't understand it. Society is getting dumber by the moment.

But she loves that shite. Along with filters. I don't need a filter to try to make me look better. I am what I am. Everybody knows I'm fat. Why do we have to try to disprove it?

With the filters, are we talking about the 30 year old girls in my office who have profiles pictures with dog faces on them?

Yes.

Endlessly entertaining for a 4 year old.

If my wife ever posted a picture like that, I'd divorce her.

I'm 27, and I remember all of this.

In particular a sense of optimism pre-9/11 Clinton years and endless pessimism during the Bush years and after 9/11.

I did not get my first computer until 2001 and had dial up internet until I moved off to college in 2008. My mother was the first person in my family to own a cell phone. I forget when she bought it, but it was one of those classic Nokia brick looking phones with the original version of Snake. I didn't get a cell phone until 2002-2003. Both grandparents drove older cars without automatic windows.

That's it I guess. I haven't seen them all. I get irrationally angry when she tries to do that crap with me.

It's just a bunch of trashy whores in Louisiana sending pictures of themselves. Occasionally there's a little fratboy chugging a beer but you can just skip over those

This is the one and only reason I use Twitter. Probably the best and most up to date resource out there when it comes to cybersecurity info/news. I've gotten the heads up on major vulns many times hours or days before it comes out via "mainstream" methods.

I'm GenX, but because of my profession I have to make sure I'm familiar with each new evolution of social media, networked devices, OS's, etc. and more importantly what makes them tick. The problem is that too many people today use technology without understanding the infrastructure beneath it and the risks inherent in using it.

I'm looking at you Internet of shite users.

tl;dr - Too many people use social media, networked devices, etc without really understanding how they work. I think this is becoming more of a problem with each "micro" generation.
