I am not sure why anyone would pay thousands of dollars for hand tools. Snap on is so expensive they are offering financing for 3/8” socket sets. I have an old craftsman set set and som stuff from Walmart and harbor freight that work perfect on my dirt bikes, side by side and trucks. I would love to have someone change my mind

Yeah it’s marketing. Basically the cutco of tools. We used to run a mechanic shop on nothing but harbor freight. The tools typically lasted as long with mechanics abuse of shop tools.

I have busted and ruined cheap tools on many occasions. If I were a mechanic and wanted to buy tools once, and beat the shite out of them daily, I would buy Snap-On. When a $2000 tool set makes you $500 a day then they aren't that expensive.

Have I changed your mind?

no, i have craftsman hand tools that have never failed. Spending $2000 isn't a requirment to have confidence in one's tools

Id rather pay extra for tools and not buy cheap shite made by slave wage labor in China. Ill pay even more if I know the tools are made in the US

It may be worth it if you can utilize the tool trucks. I'm guessing that's why a lot of full-time mechanics use them.

There are definitely other brands out there that offer good quality for a lot less money.

I agree with that for my home. But when you got knuckle draggers working on old Hondas, you give them the cheapest thing you can find.

Craftsman tools are not what they used to be.

Snap On, Matco and the like are excellent but you will pay for it. And if you ever do break it they replace it for free.

Mechanics can't have their tools breaking constantly and in my experience it is hard to break a Snap On. Even with a 4 foot cheater on a 1/2" ratchet.

I wouldn’t buy a hammer from harbor freight. It’s crap.

Overpriced? Maybe, but it is professional grade and you are not a pro.

The difference in quality between good sets and cheap is most apparent with the ratchet, and SnapOn is the go-to IMO.

Myself, I buy various brands NOS off Eboy and they are worth the money.

I’ve been having Snap On hand tools and a roll around chest for going on 40 years.
Also have some Mac, and Craftsman.
Retired aircraft and helicopter mechanic.
Got my money’s worth.

If you think the hand tools are expensive, research the prices of the tool chests lol
