How often do you see someone smoking while pumping their gas? Do you say something and ask them to put it out or do you ignore it? Happened this weekend to me and when I ask him to put it out he got all stupid about it.

Any good stories ya'll have regarding this?

Never witnessed such stupidity in person, but I would say something as I don't like smoking as it is let alone at a gas pump.

It's really not even an fire/explosion hazard. Cigarettes don't burn hot enough.

Mythbusters guys visited this topic.

Now, lighting a cigarette might be a bad call, especially with a zippo or something that stays lit without holding down a fuel button.

Good luck coming up to me and trying to get me to put down my Winston 100. Gets boring filling up my 80 gallon tank with diesel

usually I agree that what other people do doesn't really bother me. I draw the line at smoking while pumping gas. It creates a safety hazard for all. There is a reason that there are no smoking signs everywhere and if I have to explain the physics of why you don't smoke when dispensing a highly flammable, highly volatile liquid then maybe Darwin was right.

It is hot enough if you're taking a drag.

Plus those clowns might not be thinking an go to light another smoke, which could definitely cause a fire.

I’d like you to explain the physics of it actually.

plenty of youtube vids showing people using their cell phone lights and setting off gas tanks...cant imagine smoking a cigarette is less dangerous....but, one time in the dorm we poured gas in the shower and flicked lit cigs in it to see what would happen (cuz we just saw it in a movie). Nothing happened.

There are also signs everywhere telling me to turn off my car. I read awhile back that this is an unnecessary precaution with modern cars, so I stopped. I still feel like I'm doing something shady when I leave it running, but I'm getting over it.

I always thought something horrible would happen if I left it running. I think I read a post on here about how it's no big deal, and I was like, "god dammit." I felt duped for blindly following orders for no reason.

Can't wait to see gas stations go the way of casinos and bars. I don't want to get cancer while pumping my gas.

Do you get equally as mad at the yard guys filling up their gas cans in the back of the truck?
