I'm guessing you've never read his articles. They're about old people with goofy little tales of childhood writing in. I don't understand the point

He actually doesn't write a column per se, he just transcribes the messages left on his voice mail.
I don't know what he is being paid, but it's too much.

There really doesn't have to be a point. It's just something older people enjoy to read and respond to and his column has been around for years. And it is very easily avoidable if you don't enjoy it...

I'm no reader of his, but just about anything labelled comedy, especially by today's standards, can also be considered redundant.

Yes. Older people read him religiously. Now you'll see some of those people on the Old Pictures of Baton Rouge Facebook group.
Their 'contributions' are annoying and often wrong as frick(when recalling a place or event in BR).
