Personally, I think this is a mental disorder and the perpetrators should not be allowed to reproduce. I'd like to know how much total productive time is wasted with the afore-mentioned gum-flapping. Jeezus, this drives me up the wall. Some people just like to hear themselves talk. Ever notice that?

I dread small talk & try to avoid situations where I know it’ll happen. I still end up hearing the life stories of half the cashiers I encounter. I look too friendly.

I got blasted for starting a thread about this. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

It’s painful! A cashier asked me how tall I was (she was also tall-ish), and it somehow ended with her telling me about the day her grandma called to tell her that her sister committed suicide years ago. She was nonchalant about it, but I didn’t know how to excuse myself. I kept hoping someone else would get in line. fricking brutal.

Just live your life buried in your fricking phone and ignore people. That’s what’s wrong with society. Get to really know people through small talk instead of what BS they post on social media.

Small talk actually provides a very valid social purpose. I'm not the biggest fan, but it's an important skill to learn how to do.

There's a time and place for everything.

I’ve trained myself to ask a lot of questions. This way, I look like an active participant while not really having to do much talking. It’s a good way to fake being social.

Relative to the amount of productive time wasted on Tigerdroppings, I'm pretty sure it approaches zero.
