Since there's been so many "moving to ___" threads lately

Where would you say is the best value in the continental U.S.
We all know places like Seattle, Denver, Austin and DFW are great but property values are consistently going up, though I'd agree that DFW and Austin are not extremely pricey.
What's the city/area most like these; well educated, good school system, non-crumbling infrastructure, and decent wages that is still reasonably priced? Sort of a hidden gem I guess.
I'd probably go with Orlando or Tampa.

there is a rural area of West Florida just south of Tampa that has some altitude, about 40 to 50 feet above sea level. Bears live in it.
The price is right, but you would be looking at a bit of a commute to get to a Whole foods and civilized medicine.
Its either that or learn Spanish.

Seattle is one of the best cities I've visited. I'd love to live close to ONP and that area. Definitely $$$ though

Huge difference between visiting and living
You'd get sick of this place after a week of cold wet weather especially if you live down town like me and have to deal with all that crap
If you lived in the suburbs it might be OK but then you'd have to deal with the traffic and it's still expensive
Can't wait to leave. Hopefully I'm out of here by March

Omaha? Kansas City? Twin Cities?
The Midwest seems like the best value.
I'd live in Omaha. It is a nice place.

Dallas probably matches your requirements. If you go out to the suburbs, property isn't as expensive as in the city. Great infrastructure. The economy is booming with thousands of new jobs every year. No state income tax is nice. Great schools!

Any suburb of any major city except for Detroit?
I might even suggest Birmingham, AL if you make more than $100k a year alone or $150k married. Mountain Brook routinely sends kids to Ivy schools and it's one of the ritziest neighborhoods in the country. You could get a nice house for $450k which would get you a small middle class home in Atlanta, Boston, or Chicago.

Wife's parents have a few houses in Tampa. One of their own and 4 they rent out. The prices have increased quite a bit as of late. They were buying them prior to having them remodeled for 60-80k a few years back. Prices increased by around 100k in those same areas by now though.
