Reading thru these, kids from the 70s and 80s talk about doing outdoor stuff with friends.

Younger folks talk about cultural stuff, games etc.

So true. It’s definitely not the same place, either. One of my grandfathers worked at the old Brown Morris store that is now torn down. I remember going to see him and he would always buy me a come from the old machine that had the door and sold in glass bottles…..

Playing paper football (triangle) in school.
Remember folding up a piece of paper and thumping it to try and get it to hang over the edge of the table and getting to flick it between the finger goalposts.

I’m pretty sure the ice cream truck song is the same everywhere in the world. If I heard it today, I’d probably start running home to get a quarter.
I told my kids if the song was playing it meant the ice cream truck ran out of ice cream.

this is old school, but did anyone else clip playing cards to the rails of the rear fender on your bike with wooden clothes pins, when the cards hit the spokes, it made a cool sound

Teachers don’t write the curriculum. They teach what the school board requires.

How about active parenting?

Your parents didn't teach you not to pretend to be a girl on the internet.

I knew if I acted like a shithead at a friend’s house I’d get my arse busted by his mom, who would then tell my mom, who would then bust my arse even worse when I got home.

I'm amazed me and my siblings don't have lung cancer from being trapped in vehicles with our parents. Had to beg them to lower windows for even a few seconds now and then.
It's like they were killing the aerodynamics, or wasting the air conditioning, or they didn't want to wear out the window cranks .
That shite was awful.

I know my mom smoked in the car. Not sure if she cracked the window or not. I don’t remember ever being bothered by her smoke. I don’t know if it was because she cracked the window or I was just so use to it I didn’t notice. :

One thing I do remember vividly is being about 5–6 year old and her handing me a dollar bill to go into the store to buy her a pack of Pall-Mall Gold and me a candy bar. But I had to bring her change back.

I remember being dropped off at Little League games with a buck or two, no ID ( who had ID?), and being picked up three hours later, after your game and the second game.
1973ish.

Everyone had their own glove, the coach had an old army duffle bag with a bunch of wooden bats, later we had some aluminum ones. During games he sat on his bucket, smoking a camel and yelling at us to pay attention.

I remember my Dad buying one of the first aluminum bats (he played softball).
It's a club. 36 inches,36 ounces, I think. It's in the back seat of my truck.

We had a corner lot, our yard plus the neighbors across the street were the baseball field.

But we also lived a couple blocks from Walbrook, practically lived there.

Nice. I grew up playing dixie ball at Wallbrook, lots of good memories there. We lived in Brownlee and there was a field in the middle of Greenacres Place that we played football or baseball in pretty much every single day.
