Fired or laid off in a massive downsizing? I've had the latter but not the former.

YES...technically twice.
The first time it was my first job and a week before my wedding. I was taken to the back room and told, "We just got a call from corporate and we have to let somebody go. You are the low man in seniority...it's nothing personal and definitely not performance related. We'll help you with references."
The second time, I was fired along with two of my superiors by a new company CEO to make room for 3 of his cronies. They all got fired themselves (including the CEO) a mere 1 1/2 years later.
I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Not fun.

the same thing happened to me. It was the first job i had after college graduation. The project went through multiple people. At the time it bothered me a lot. I had a subcontractor hire me before i drove home when he found out they let me go. It turned out to be ok for me at the time.

Started working at 14, got fired once when I was 19 when I had a college job. I was pretty worthless when I was 19, I would have fired myself too.
