City government is maybe the most backward in the country.
I remember when people used to say that Shreveport was 20 years ahead of Monroe/West Monroe.

While I-20 is dated, especially in Bossier and with some of the on/off ramps. Shreveport at least has a bypass/loop for traffic and is built to grow and sustain traffic much better than BR in my opinion. Granted, I realize the population difference but I-20 does get a lot of pass through traffic as well. But yes Shreveport has rough areas too. But there are definitely nice areas in and around the City.
Edit: But what tf ever happened with the few mile stretch of I-49 that is incomplete and being litigated lol. Did they ever get that resolved.

Most of the deep south and delta areas remind me of the many 3rd word shitholes I had to go to in over 20 years in the military. The poverty and laziness is palpable.
People on here won't admit it, but it's awful.

Shreveport once was home to United Gas a company that controlled more natural gas than any in the world. United was bought out in 1966 by much smaller Pennzoil and by the mid 70s all employees were moved to Houston. By the 80s the major oil companies moved out and by the end of 90s most of the independent operators moved or downsized. Shreveport former glory can be seen along Fairfield, but most of the surrounding areas are bad. Queensborough is a ghetto and the area around my grandmother's home across from the closed Shreveport Country Club is blighted. Cross Lake has frequent shootings at the parks and to be avoided.
It's sad and could have been avoided by proper management by city fathers who gave away the store.

Adjust for cost of living, NY, DC, PR and Cali have the most poor per capita.
Most California towns not on the coastal strip are no different, just a different race.

The Gourds - Shreveport (youtube)
eta: lyrics
Midnight drive down on Jewella Rd.
Methamphetamines and carryin a lonely load
Roaches in the ashes, truck jamming “Limelight”
Look like it’s gonna be just me and Geddy Lee tonight
Shreveport, Oh Shreveport
Wonder where I’ll be when the sun comes t’ shine
Glasspacks hummin by Circle In The Square
Heavy Metal Rednecks and their frizzy blonde hair
F*ck a bunch a hair-do boys and their Spandex britches
And their big titty, fancy drunk arse bitches
Shreveport, Oh Shreveport
Wonder where I’ll be when the sun comes t’ shine
David Green called me to pick him up after work
Said to bring him some cold beer and a fresh clean shirt
Said he was already broke and he just got paid
We spent the rest of the night singin’ by his Mama’s grave
Shreveport, Oh Shreveport
Wonder where I’ll be when the sun comes t’ shine

It was kickass in the 70s and early 80s. Started dying mid 80s and by 1990 was indeed a shithole.

New Orleans and Baton Rouge started declining around the same time.
Maybe late 80s for BR.

Gangs, thugs, drugs. Shreveport even killed off their largest employers over the years.
The Cedar Grove riots signaled the start of the end...

The 80s oil bust really hurt Nola. In BR, the forced desegregation of the public schools chased much of the middle class out of the city over the next 7-8 years.

I've always heard some story that Shreveport basically could have been Dallas with the oil industry but Louisiana and the city itself screwed the pooch. Not sure if its true of not though, but I feel like there has been a similar situation with South La and industry moving to Houston. Such a shame La always ruins itself.

Frank's duck pizza is amazing. Didn't the owners open a seafood restaurant down by the Southern Loop somewhere?
