Forgot to include.. here's some of their grand ideas for this project

Create apprenticeships in construction trades to enable young people who have committed non-violent felonies to get jobs on the project.

Aim to to give half of contracts to minority and women-owned businesses and to local enterprises.

Set up a mobile information center to travel through neighborhoods sharing information about jobs and contracting opportunities on the project.

Ensure that 30 percent of the residential housing in the project is "affordable."

Give preference to local retailers and restaurants.

3 bolded ideas are great, the rest is overreach.

Is this inside the 'Ring of Slums'?
That down town is doomed unless the ring can be broken. It is like being in prison, any direction you go from downtown is terrible.

They are still talking about this? I remember a project like this almost 20 years ago when I worked at DEQ.

If Texas ever gets gaming...

That city will have to shut down just about anything, including CenturyTel arena.

The city is Toledo Bend in a ghetto.

Is this in the works? I haven’t heard anything about that but I haven’t paid any attention to TX politics whatsoever. If they did get into gaming, it would be a fricking death blow to Shreveport and put a hurting on Lake Charles too. At least LC has the industry to sustain itself without gaming...All Shreveport has is ghettos...

They did this 15 or 20 years ago and it died a horrible death because, if we are being honest, nevermind.

It didn’t work out.

They should have stuck with the old Bossier Strip. They had a good thing and pissed it away.

Lets discuss the 30% "affordable housing" units in the in the hypothetical residential portion. Typically, people who aren't in designated affordable housing don't won't to be neighbors with those who are. Who's gonna fill the remaining 70%?

Beyond that, are money spending folks going to come spend time and money in an area surrounded by low income housing?

This sounds exactly like a grand scale version of the city backed Red River District that failed spectacularly in large part to a lack of policing the area. People quit coming and all the businesses left.
