I got the valve stem out. Went to Lowe’s and Home Depot looking for a replacement but nothing matched. Still not sure of the brand.
Being that I have to replace the knobs, I might as well replace everything. Will another brand fit into the existing plumbing? For instance, assuming the old stuff was Delta, would Kohler fit into those same brass fittings? I know most of the faucet sets I’ve seen come with their own valve body

If it is older than 10 years or so, I’m sure copper was used to supply the water. If that’s the case, anything will work.

Chances of another brand fitting are slim to none. I wouldn't buy the generic stuff either, I've had bad luck with them. You need a basically exact fit close is not enough, under pressure they will leak.
I'd take it to a plumbing supply warehouse, they likely will know unless they only sell certain brands then they won't know the others.
I'd be surprised if the name wasn't on the faceplate, or at least the logo. For example, I have a faucet that has a rubber plug for the set screw hole that is the company logo. That's the only logo on there.

Nm. If you don’t know the brand and can’t find a handle that will fit, there may be an adapter that makes it fit?

I had the same problem in my shower. I went to Lowes and Home Depot looking for the part to fix but the didn't have anything close. Then I went to that plumbing supply place on Siegen and they sent me to some plumbing parts store on Florida Blvd near Denham Springs and they had exactly what I needed. Take pictures of whatever you haven't disassembled and take any parts with you to this place on Florida. They will have what you need.
This is assuming you are located in or around Baton Rouge.

Nope. It’s on an exterior wall.
1. Order a pallet of bricks & sand
2. Rip out the exterior wall
3. Pull the shower out via Exterior wall opening
4. Replace shower handle and reinstall shower
5. Replace the ext studs & sheathing
6. Hire a bricker to rebrick opening
7. Good to go!!
