This is a function of language and demonstrates the limitations of English. There are examples in other languages in which the 1st person plural can make distinctions along gender lines, but English does not have that ability, hence why the "we" construction is common in multiple instances.

I tried this with poor results a few nights ago. Our 1.5 year old wanted to wake up early as shite the other day and my wife told me I had to get up with him because she was tired from being pregnant. I reminded her that I was tired myself because WE are pregnant. . . she laughed at me and told me to get my bitch arse up with our son. She's also not a fan of me telling everyone I did all of the hard work getting her pregnant
