Should you tear out tile in a slab house?

Friends flooded and I'll be helping repair, just trying to gather tools. Tia.

I assume you mean tile floors? I would think that would be ok. If you mean tile backsplash, if the Sheetrock got wet then yes, it would need to come out.

Don't see the need to pull floor tile attached to concrete slab unless there was some damage to the actual slab.

Nothing about tile, mastic or concrete should be in jeopardy from flooding that I'm aware of.

Just heard on the radio if you do pull tile leave one to show what you had. If not, they will replace cheapest they can.

I have no experience with this just saying what I just heard 5 minutes ago.

No reason to if the house is dried and dehumidified well.

Easy way to think of this - if it is a porous material and has gotten wet, it has to be removed.

Non porous materials can be cleaned without removal.

Maybe. If the grout wasn't sealed, and water was in the house do a few days, then mold will grow. If it was attached to one of those floating mess grids, then water could have migrated under the tile. If it were my house, I would want it replaced.

There is not reason to pull it unless is was laid poorly and tiles are popping up. Even if this is the case I would not remove it at this time, let the adjuster see it.

I would pull it out. I flipped a few Katrina homes and, in every house, when the tile was pulled up, there was mold throughout the grooves in the thin set.
