The danger here is big mature trees falling on your car that's parked out on the street.

Y'all trained them to avoid houses?

There are going to be a lot of trees down because of how saturated the soil is. Even just running on the WOD trail and Four Mile Run this morning, there were a ton of trees down and we haven't had any big wind really. I don't think there is much of a risk unless you live directly on the Potomac, Rock Creek, Four Mile Run, or one of the lakes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Wharf and Navy Yard flood given how high the river is already.

I don't see any reason to leave. Might get a lot of rain so unless you live somewhere prone to flooding, stay put and leave the streets open for those coming in from the coast. Go to the store so you don't need to get out the next few days and have the essentials you may need if you lose electricity.

My aunt and uncle and cousin live on a big boat on the Potomac, right on the southwest water front. Hope it doesn't get too bad.

I'd stock up on some water and food in case you can't leave your house for a couple of days or you lose power and stores aren't open.

It won't be that bad, but you should expect some flooding in low areas, street flooding, and some power disruptions.

20-30 mph winds in an urban area is more than enough to wreak havoc on the power grid.

That said, I'd be more worried in Norfolk and in the coastal Carolinas.

have never seen this much consistent rain, in a given year, in my life. If we get a bunch from the storm it will screw things up but shouldn’t be life threatening.

Yep, flooding is never life threatening

I doubt it. The typical spots, like OldeTown Alexandria, will probably see some flooding (don’t make dinner reservations at Landini Brothers for Friday or Saturday), but for the most part we will just see a lot of rain (we’ve had enough of that this summer) and probably some downed trees and power outages.

I’m supposed to be in court in DC on Friday. Traffic will suck worse than usual because, not only can’t folks no drive in snow here, they can’t drive in rain. It amazes me that I still see cars stopped under overpasses on the beltway when it’s raining.

My trip is nothing compared to one of our guys who is supposed to be in the Circuit Court of Virginia Beach on Friday. He’s going Thursday night, but whether court is going to be open is questionable.

My best to all who will be affected by this storm.
