I think your coworker is probably wrong but if not your future bosses are bitches and you should walk in, lay your dick on the table, and demand they hire you for an insane amount of money.

Lot of people like working contract to contract and make more money that way. They may not know your intentions.

WTF? Just take your participation check and watch the others excel past you. And pay your parents for the room and board they have been providing.

I'm at a fricking loss too.

And the best part about bartending is you can not claim a bunch of cash tips so those dirty joos won't get their filthy hands on it.

Is the contract through a temp service? If so, then there may be a buy-out that the company would have to pay to the temp service if they hire you before the contract is up. In that case, I would wait until there's 3 months left in the contract before asking what their plans are after the contract ends.

If it's a contract between you and the company, you should hint that you're interested in a full time position.

5 months before the contract is up is way too soon for them to be pissy.

You're going to be making 15k on weekends making between minimum wage and 10 dollars an hour? Impressive. An 8 hour shift 3 days a week for 52 weeks comes out $12,480. So where's the extra 3 k coming from? Overtime?

If you're on contract and have it expiring soon, you absolutely ask for it. Name a company that doesn't ever ask or go through with extending contracts for their own profit.

What the hell? If they are interested in me, they should offer right? I don't feel like it's my place at all to come to them about that. I'm at a fricking loss.

It's a two way street, man. You to prove to them you want to stay on the job. Just say some variation with more specifics of this:

"Hey, It has been an absolute pleasure working for y'all. In fact I would like to see if there is any way extend the contract. I like working around you and I think much of my good work has benefitted the company and helped make everyone's lives easier as a partner here. What else do I need to do to secure an extension to the contract?"

If they're expressing disappointment that you're not asking for an extension, then what do you have to lose by giving them what they want? Fluff your managers up a little bit, fluff up yourself with specific details on what you've brought to the company, and ask for it. That's how it works.

Put together a one page resume. hand it to the one who knows your work best.
Ask him how you can get to be hired.

Don't make it all into an emotional problem. Only you can make this happen now.
If you dramatize some SHOULD OR SHOULDNT, you will be let go in a few months.

ASK and YE SHALL RECEIVE.

Have a good idea what you think you want to do next and be sure to ask the supervisor what HE needs.

You clearly don't understand how waiters and bartenders are paid.

Not surprised you don't understand the dynamic in your workplace.

Update:
Do my managers read TD? I walked in this morning to find I had been scheduled with a meeting with management. They knew I had other interests in the company and are transferring me to one of those other teams for the remainder of the contract. This team is a group I had really wanted to work with to build some great skills and learn a whole lot about project management! That explains a lot (though not everything. They also said they didn't know if they would be allowed to full time me so be open to looking elsewhere within the company or externally.

well, that is great to hear!...go and enjoy your new position for a while.

heed their warning though, you need to be actively working on whatever the next step is for you in your career. I would personally be looking for something with a little more security than what they have to offer.

remember, the best time to look for a job is when you don't really need a job.
