After seeing all the Peloton commercials, can we get an update from the OP how it went over for him last Christmas?

It’s the tread from last year. Seeing this new peloton commercial about the hot brunette wife making a video and showing it to her husband to thank him...wondering if the OT has the same experience

Absolutely not!! I see the commercial with the wife so grateful her husband got her a peloton last year because she's healthy, happy, and feeling beautiful.... bull shite! I think "how many divorces is this commercial going to cause?" Don't give her a gift unless she can wear it or look at and think about what a sweetheart you are. Exercise equipment, appliances, even books.... anything that requires her to do anything more than eat a bowl of ice cream is potential for resentment.

If she doesn't exercise, she ain't going to start riding an exercise bike no matter how pretty the LCD screen. If she exercises and you don't, you better start exercising if you expect her to because first ride on the exercise bike her nag instinct is going to kick in and she'll either have your lazy arse going to the gym or in divorce court. People who exercise think people who don't exercise are lazy fat slobs it's just in our DNA. If both you exercise, get the peloton as a mutual purchase don't give it as a gift.

I've been married and divorce three times. I consider myself somewhat of an expert on how to screw a marriage up, no pun intended.

How do you stay married long term? I really can't help with that one, but from what I gather spouses need to understand each other well enough to be good partners in running the household while maintaining a solid friendship.,,,,, and eventually porn but that's another post.

So is she the type that just doesn’t want to work out at all or she just isn’t into spin classes? Not everyone likes the spin bike.

We still love ours. Between getting on the bike at least 4-5 days a week and WW I’ve lost 15 pounds so far. There were a few times where I was medically restricted from getting on the bike and I was legit sad about it. Telling ya....that bike is addictive.

Well, if the commercials are to be believed, she's going to become a self-obsessed attention whore that will be selfying her entire regimen and posting to social medial from day 1.

I still can’t figure out why anyone would pay thousands for this thing?
One, you could either ride a bike outside or a plain stationary bike for much, much cheaper.
If you ride outside, you get the benefit of fresh air and vitamin D.
Lastly, why do you need a coach to tell you how to peddle a bike? There is only so much you can do on a bike.
“Faster, slower, faster, slower!”

You clearly have never taken a spin class

We love ours because at any time I wish....I can walk down my hall and take a spin class taught by some of the best spin instructors out there. Some of them professional cyclists who still compete. I can choose from thousands of different classes based on length, difficulty, instructor, music choices, etc. Can race against other people taking the same class on the leaderboard to push myself harder in a class if I wish.

Can see all my metrics and see my progression as a rider. Can interact with others in the various peloton groups on fb to motivate one another to reach our fitness goals.

Also have access to many other types of classes taught off the bike. Yoga, Pilates, boot camp classes, strength training, etc.

Please tell me how many ways one can ride a bike? Faster, slower, stand up, sit down. I get it.
If you have fun going to a class for the company, thats fine. I just don’t get the idea that a coach is necessary to show you how to ride a bike.
“ Faster, slower, faster, slower, ok, take a break!”
I might start a class and motivate people to walk. “ Forward, one foot in front of another. Slow down, speed up, spin around.”

That's who OP's wife will turn into when she rides her Peloton in the bright airy sunroom with the door adjar so it feels like she's actually riding her bike outside.

Unless she has specifically asked for it, I'd go with hell no.

Dude no.

If she is fat... No.

If she asked for one... even bigger No!

You don't want to set the example that your wife gets multi thousand dollar gifts for Christmas. If you spend 3 grand for an exercise bike this year she will expect you to spend 3 grand on some absurd bullshite next year.

Underwhelm with gifts. You have to condition them with this shite.
