This.

If they're that bad they shouldn't be out.

As we get rid of cash bail, send ppl homes from prison because of covid, and have DAs under prosecuting at an all time high.

But if they out, they good

I bet you've committed a felony at some point in your life.

Or are we permanently stripping people of their rights not because of what they did, but because they got caught?

You said if they pay taxes. Technically illegals pay taxes, therefore they should have rights. Your words Tyga

I was under the assumption that we were talking about American felons. But you knew that.

Would illegal migrants not be felons? I don’t cross the border. Perhaps El gaucho could help us here.

I can't give a blanket answer. I think it should be considered by a court, on application of the person seeking to get his rights back, on a case by case basis.

If you are released and off parole/probation yes

The thing is carjackers and the like should be locked away for life making this a non issue

A blanket felony ban is bad

Actions have consequences. And taking rights away should be a consequence of serious crime. Now label what a serious crime is. Felony?

No. We need as few stupid, self-centered bastards voting as possible.

Just remember rights are not derived from the state.

There are too many felonies on the books as is.

A significant number of them are used as a way to force plea deals or just frick someone over.

It's out of hand. Overcharge to hell and back and figure it out later is standard operation.

Please be specific on what felonious offenses? Many posters are college educated here, served in the military, know right from wrong and have never committed a felony whatsoever.

Hell, even DWI was considered to be an egregious offense while serving on active duty and would lead to dire consequences, at least when I was in.

Negative on that. Plenty of folks get released after years and still owe restitution to their victims. Sometimes paying a debt to society is literally just paying a debt. That was a caveat Florida's felon voter law came with, and i concur with it enthusiastically. With that said, I've also had a few friends get slapped with outrageous fines I'd never pay off post prison, like 50-75k on state trafficking charges. I certainly don't want to incentivize large fines for holding voting rights hostage.

But, did they pay their debt?
Let's say they stole cars. Did they repay insurance? Repay victim for costs incurred?

Not all felons “served time”! Many people have felony convictions and were never sent to prison

I would say a majority

Extremely uncommon around here for many lower level felonies to see much if any at all time served. First offense(s) practically zero. Anyone with a lawyer zero.
