Should cops be allowed to sit in the middle turn lane with their lights off?

Every night here lately this cop parks with his lights off right outside of my work and I nearly hit him pulling out on the highway cause I don't see him til my lights shine on him as I turn and pull into the lane.

If you're talking about non divided median, no. That's hazardous. Now if it's a raised median or grass median (read: neutral ground N.O. Baws) then yes.

It's a non divided median. Two lane highway with a turn lane separating the two lanes on each side.

You should pull up next to him and tell him it is illegal for him to be doing that, because in the state of Alabama it is.
OR...
Hit his arse and catch it all on camera and sue the shite out of the city or state (if state trooper).

Of course so he can pull over that guy going 12 over the speed limit since that is so dangerous

Nope. He should be given a ticket.

Keeping that revenue flowing is more important than your safety Mr man with a job.

Not only should he not, but frankly that's pretty dumb.

Make sure you hurt your neck/back in the process.

Pretty much this.
I generally support the police but shake my head when I see them do this.
How does the city insurance allow this practice?

As a former supervisor I was against this practice.
Way too dangerous for the officer and traffic.
Another practice was parking in areas that have no parking signs. I had a complaint one time from a citizen who complained about an officer under my watch parking in a median right. He was parked right under a no parking sign. The officer then harassed the citizen who had the right to complain. He should have said, “ I am glad you brought this to my attention and I apologize and will find a better place to park.”
I went out there issues him a citation, issued him a written warning in his file, and moved him to the worst duties on shift for a month. This looks very bad to the community you protect and serve.
These things have always pissed me off and shows a lack of respect to the citizens that pay the officer’s salary.
