Why isn’t that sufficient?

Students said during interviews that they predicted he’d be the one to shoot up the school. Even if it was in a joking way people saw this coming.

At least he had the decency to not kill the old couple that took care of him after his parents died like so many kill before they go to their target.

for certain actions, yes, that is an appropriate punishment

In my opinion

What other actions would you just throw due process out the window?

If he is not mentally competent to stand trial then he is not mentally capable of living IMO

I think everyone who has been in high school or college identified several outcasts who seemed like the type to do so. I know I certainly did.

Great. This line of thinking could never lead to unintended consequences right?

Damn, you need to take a few deep breaths. Everyone wants this kid to die but we can’t just suddenly start waiving people’s rights based on the severity of a crime. What if he only killed 10 people? 5 people? Another student in the parking lot after school one day? Where do you draw the line?

My issue is with all the appeals & dragging out the inevitable on the taxpayers dime.

Give him a trial, if guilty then that’s it.

We know this kid is guilty. Why even let the courts give him a chance. That's the problem. He'll claim insanity and be taken care of in a cozy correctional facility.

Because this is what civilized society does.

The moment you start waiving these rights, they become meaningless. In case you didn’t know, due process and it’s associated rights are a major pillar of our society.

I’m not so sure why some of y’all are so condescending about this.. relax it’s just an opposing opinion

And to answer your question, I’m not sure I can say that for too many other crimes... mass murder fits the bill though, especially when they are caught the same day, red handed

That pesky document called The Constitution.

I'm good man. I understand our rights as citizens. But due process is ignorant when we know who the guy is and what laws he broke. That's my point. The state AG was saying that they will be seeking the death penalty hours after this happened.

Why wait years? Why give him time to think?

Because these rights cannot be waived
To do so would completely undermine their existence. They are unalienable.

I understand the frustration but surely you can see why just executing someone without any type of trial is a terrible idea

That's the number one thing of why this keeps happening. These murderers know they can depend on our legal system to get out of the seriousness of the situation.

The fact that you believe this is both hilarious and saddening.

Newsflash: Most mass shooters go into the situation intending to die.

That's a scary way to think. How about figuring out why he did what he did?

Something just doesn’t seem right having these kids reliving what happened yesterday by doing all these tv interviews just a few hours after their lives were just turned upside down

It's just a very dangerous road to go down, once you start compromising the constitution, it becomes much easier to compromise it and you have set the precedent for doing so.

You may stop at mass murder... but there will be people who will want to extend it to just murder, and then rape. The whole point of the constitution is that is not be broken in any circumstances, it's the final say on our laws.
