I think holding parents or guardians responsible for their kid's actions is one way to approach this.
As someone who spends all day with other people’s kids, I will tell you this is not feasible. There are too many kids who are entirely different at home and at school. I joke about women being able to hide their crazy when they need to. Teens do that, too. The parents are often...unaware that they’re raising a teen with mental health issues...or they’re in denial.
The root of the issue is figuring out why we have this uptick in mental health issues that motivates teens to resort to violence and address that issue.

Until we address the mental health of people, specifically our youth, I don't see the random violence changing. Sad.

Very true. Also just the want to be famous is an issue.

This is a good question. Do you think some of it has to do with parents who were using drugs while pregnant? When crack was a huge epidemic, there were a lot of "crack babies". Kids in high school today, were born in the early 2000s, that's when the pain pill/heroin epidemic started.. Maybe that is part of it.

I would also say the over diagnosis where every kid gets ADD/ADHD meds is a good place to start

Obviously what we are doing in the present day isn’t working. So the question is, if it isn’t the availability of guns (which have been readily available in the past and guns have been a normal aspect of childhood in the past), then what has changed?
Kids have been bullied forever. There have been outcasts forever. Is it the modern methods of discipline or lack thereof? Is it the psychoactive drugs? Is it social media?
Where are the roots? Maybe if we can find the roots we can find the damned seed and extricate it.

Discipline definitely has a lot to do with it because now you can’t look at a student wrong without someone complaining. It used to be that when a kid acted up, had bad grades, etc it was the students fault and parents and teachers figured out ways to correct the behavior. Now, when little Johnny is acting up or a dumb frick, parents blame the teachers. The kid has no respect of authority bc parents want to be friends and talk about “feelings” instead of parenting.

Anything about the shooting in Atlanta this evening? Heard it was at a graduation.

Maybe it’s the halcyon days we live in. Maybe it’s the fact that we have so much relative wealth (where even our “poor people” are fat”) and access to so much stimuli (we literally have the collected wealth of our human experience, lies and truth, good and bad, at our fingertips) that we aren’t able to cope with such a plethora of input.
Perhaps the masses aren’t ready to recieve the gift/curse they’ve been given.
Or perhaps we just aren’t weeding out the bad seeds.
