I know several, and it’s not always a money thing. I definitely know couples where the hotter one makes more money but truly loves their partner. I usually feel like it’s when 1. They’ve been together forever 2. The ugly one usually helped the hot one get through some rough times and they built really deep bonds

The one I've always wondered about is where the dude is better looking than the plain Jane wife.
I've known a few and the husband was usually a narcissist or incredibly insecure.
I didn't care enough to drill down on why it translated to a meh wife, but it was a commonality.

I learned a long time ago that If you make the obvious point that men need to value themselves more than they value random girls, people get agitated. Really , any discussion of the differences that exist in the natures of men and women upsets people. They believe in egalitarian principles, and they think any discussion of our actual nature is a form of betrayal of those principles. It’s not, you can believe in equality and still acknowledge the huge differences in the two sexes and how we behave and so forth. The gynocentric arguments that are current wisdom in The West are very fragile and can’t withstand rational scrutiny and so rather than address your point they lash out at you. And of course you see where it leads-a culture where men are weak and women are insufferable and the connection that used to exist between the sexes is torn and frayed.

I have an opinion that more than 2/3 points differential on the hotness scale causes problems. Most specifically when a couple used to be well matched but there has been weight change/surgery/difference in aging in one spouse.
If I’m being vulnerable here, my husband (inspite of my moniker, I’m a woman) has gotten even better looking as he’s gotten older and gotten some gray/grown a beard and it makes me nervous.
