The best way to avoid something like this is to not look a seal from the depths.

I love sharks. Sucks for the guy but that’s life and death and the nature of the world. Sometimes you eat the shark fin, sometimes the shark eats your leg

I've snorkeled off that beach plenty of times and this wouldn't discourage me. shite happens, but there is risk in everything.
