I always want to run when they want you to do a "role play" to show how you'd sell something, or deal with a specific type of situation.

I thought that crap ended in the 90's. Apparently not.

Interviews are supposed to get down to business. Wth does anyone care what I do OUTSIDE OF THE JOB?

When I interviewed people in the past, if they got far enough in the process where I was interviewing them, then they were qualified for the open position. I wanted to get a sense of what that person was like and what they would be like to work with

Did you know it?

IMO it's a pretty valid question.

It's amazing how many people forget a name within seconds of an introduction.

I liked to go with "How many pennies tall is the empire state building?"

I'm interested in seeing how your thought process works in determining the answer. I don't really care what your answer is as long as it isn't a random arse guess.

My brother was once asked how many golf balls were in the air in the U.S. at that time. They were more concerned with the logic behind the guess than the actual number.

My answer would be that they didn't want to pay for quality.

Aside from a Jeopardy champion, that is pretty much a random arse guess answer kinda question.

Why are grain silos round instead of square?

The interview had nothing to do with agriculture BTW.

What makes Peter Peter?

Well...I'm an avid Catamaran sailor, I can my own homemade jam, Apricot, and I love my banks raise-your-rates cd.

Nah, it would be pretty easy. Assume that the building is 100 stories, each story is 10 feet...so the building is roughly 1000ft tall. You can guestimate that there are 10 pennies per inch, 12 inches in a foot, the building is 1000ft tall. Simple math would say it's around 120k pennies tall.

Again, the answer isn't as important as showing that you thought through the answer and had some assumptions that you worked from.

I might be too old school, but I don't see any problems with this question. Just trying to get a sense of how someone balances themselves.

When we were still in college a friend of mine went on an interview and he swears he was asked "what is your favorite type of cereal?"

He said he felt like the interview wasn't going too well in the first place. It was two guys interviewing him and he said he thinks they were fricking with him when they asked him that.
