Everything costs. Private tutoring, good schools, homes, the latest gadgets, the best colleges, vehicles, camps, etc.

Our car insurance alone for having several teenagers is greater than the GDP of several countries and Rhode Island. Especially in Louisiana. (Get Gordon!)

Part of this is true but part of it is just excuses to have more money for lifestyles people enjoy. I know plenty of people who are pulling in 200k+ that live in low cost of living areas that only have 2 kids just because they want more expendable income to go to Europe in the summer or the wife doesn't want have to lose her baby weight again

In thinking about it, I'm not sure how new of thing it is to stop with 2 kids.

I grew up in a small town north of Pensacola ,Florida in the 70s/80s.

My neighborhood was mostly paper mill workers or the jobs that mill created. The majority of families I can think of averaged 2 kids, some with 3 or 4 but a lot with a single child too.

The sprawling families were much more likely to be people without good jobs or much education about like today.

There’s nothing wrong with people not wanting kids. It’s better for everyone if they don’t have them, rather than having kids they didn’t want in the first place.

There is nothing more unnatural than not wanting kids.

And it’s death/suicide to the culture that accepts it as normal. I guess that makes it self correcting in the long term.

I'm one of them, never wanted kids in the slightest. Feels like throwing your life away.

I think we paid a couple hundred a month for that. I'm sure it's double or triple that now though.

Think I remember people saying $1k in New Orleans … 5 years ago right before the greatest inflation in generations

Me and my woman don’t have kids. In late 30s. We happy. Happy for those who do have them as well.

At least 10 families I attended HS with had 10+

3-4 in my elementary school

5 people I attended college with that I can think of had 9+ siblings

People I'm know through business relationships in neighboring towns - bunch either have 10 kids or have 10+ siblings

Most of the kids of these big families that are within 10 years of me have 5+ kids and are still having them
