One key thing can be found here with a very good, simplified breakdown. It is worth the read.
GumboWX - What is shear and why does it matter?

I've got something you might find useful:
Explainer on CAPE
I will be doing a long post about the hodographs soon. I do have something on the basics of shear too.

This isn't exhaustive. Y'all let me know what else you want to know about soundings and I'll do a post on em.

It was before I got the thing really cranked up.
I have a long one on hodos coming up, if nature will ever calm the hell down for me to work on it.
I know there are a lot of questions about those, and I have an amazing guide from Cameron Nixon's blog he just updated on them.

I'm pretty sure I know that sounding without looking at any identifying information. I believe that is the Birmingham sounding on the afternoon of 4/27/11.

He's probably the best studying them right now. And it doesn't take much to learn something from him....a pic and about 15 words on Twitter.

Where did you pull the archived sounding from?

This is great. Duke, when you talk about fat/skinny CAPE, is that something referring to the distribution of the volume in between the lines provided the dotted line is to the right? I saw something elsewhere referring to "vertical distribution of CAPE" - same thing?
I saw you reference a future article on it but didn't see it.

Judging by all this, I hope they have a safe room or cellar.

Judging by Delta's family genes, they'll probably be out driving in the middle of it looking for a better view.
In all seriousness, delta, make sure they're prepared.

Yes.
The greater the distance between lines, the greater the acceleration. The idea being, if you load most of the CAPE in the lower levels you have a better tornado potential vs if its more evenly distributed up.
And yes, that article on skinny/fat too is still in the future.
My 18 month old really wants to help me blog, but she's not actually all that helpful.

They live in a double wide in an open pasture. Grandfather just got home from the hospital he was in a bad wreck pulled out in front of an 18 wheeler in his Buick. Broke 3 vertebrae in his neck among other problems. Was on a vent and trach for 2 months. Wasn’t showing improvement and family decided to take him off. Dr didn’t give much of a chance to live. Tough son of a bitch was standing and walking 3 weeks later, spent 2 weeks in rehabilitation center and got sent home. He said he didn’t want to die in there and really wanted a Big Mac and a cigarette
Im sure they’ll go to my uncles house down the road he has a large sturdy 2 story home

Neither of them can drive. Grandma hasn’t driven in a few years and he won’t be driving anymore after the wreck. His eyesight was failing and he shouldn’t have been driving anyways. The only car they own now is his 1964 metallic mint green Oldsmobile he was restoring (yes he is a My Cousin Vinny fan, but couldn’t find a Skylark so he got the Oldsmobile Starfire which looks identical)

Duke is now Professor Duke or Prof. Duke.
