It's not. You can't buy something for 80 using 70. It is a 10 loss, but he had to add 10 in in order to get to 80.
That's the problem with your equation and your line of thinking. It doesn't matter if it's the same horse or a different horse, you can't buy something for 80 using 70. You have to add an additional 10 in there which cancels out the perceived loss.
How'd he buy it the first time for $60?

this is some shite LucasP would be proud of. This is some next level Charles Bronson, TulaneLSU shite.
He knows it's $20.

Assume he had the money:
Starting Balance:100
Withdraw: 60
Deposit: 70
Withdraw: 80
Deposit: 90
Ending balance: 120
Net profit: 20
Assuming he had to borrow the money:
Starting Balance 0[0]
Get Loan for 60[+60]
Buy horse for 60[0]
Sell Horse for 70[+70]
Repay loan for 60[+10]
Get Loan for 70[+80]
Buy horse for 80 [0]
Sell horse for 90 [+90]
Repay loan for 70 [+20]

Of course. I guess I replied to you by mistake. The other guy was making a special case out of the $80 purchase but not the $60 one, and I meant to be laughing at him a second time for that.

So there is no trick.
Why is this even a thing?

When he bought at 80 he had to borrow an additional $10 so it wiped out his $10 profit from the first sale because now he is $70 out of pocket total. He made $10 total
by that logic if he had bought it a second time for 100 and sold it for 110, he'd have lost money even though he twice sold it for $10 more than he paid.

Holy shite, is this still going on? None of it's true!!! There's no man and no horse, it's all made up!!! Jesus you people are dumb.
Posted on 9/20/17 at 6:47 am to LucasP
yes, and if there was a man and a horse, he sure as hell wouldn't make money off of it. That's not how horses work.
Posted on 9/20/17 at 6:49 am to olgoi khorkhoi
Horses cost money, real or fake, but sometimes the man can sell that horse and turn the horse into money for buying other horses and some times the same horse for money also because it's not always real but some times it can't be for profit or breaking even.

and sometimes the horse gets colic and dies and sometimes the man's daughter loves the horse and needs a $3,000 saddle. frick horses.
