Are you choosing to ignore my questions on purpose or are you not able to understand them?
I agree assuming the increments are even. But they aren't. He has three positives and only 1 negative. You continally say that the 10 between horses is a net negative, but it isn't, it's a net wash. You are forgetting one side of the equation.
Assuming it's a loan:
First horse transaction +10
"buy" Loan +10
Second horse transaction +10
"sell" Repayment - 10

70-60=10 Profit
60+10+10Profit=80
OOP=70
90-70=20Profit

$1 + $10 = $11 total spent
$11 + $21 = $32 total income
$32-$11=$21 profit.

I made $11 on a TRANSACTION. The single transaction I made $11.
I start with $1 I end with $21. I made $20. I made $20. I made $20.
I could then sell the item for $31, make another $10 ON THE TRANSACTION and I would have made $30, because I star...............

Johnny has spent $70 on a horse, he sells it to Mary for $90. How much did Johnny make?
Because in this scenario the seller has out of pocket expenses totaling $70 and income totalling $90.

It's not. You can't buy something for 80 using 70. It is a 10 loss, but he had to add 10 in in order to get to 80.
That's the problem with your equation and your line of thinking. It doesn't matter if it's the same horse or a different horse, you can't buy something for 80 using 70. You have to add an additional 10 in there which cancels out the perceived loss.
Forget the entire problem and answer me this question:
Imagine his atm card transactions for that day:
Starting balance:0
Withdraw $60
Deposit $70
Withdraw $80
Deposit $90
Ending balance=20
That's a net gain of $20. His bank account has risen by $20. How can you say that although his account has risen by $20 he only made $10?

Now do as I said earlier ferchrissakes and look at the cash flows:
Format: (cash flow, running total)
1: -60, -60
2: 70, 10
3: -80, -70
4: 90, 20
20 is what you end up with. FFS.
