I guess my point is I’m sure the pilots did do a bunch of stuff wrong. But the situation in the cockpit is such that it’s not surprising that some pilots will panic and do stuff wrong. Whether it’s because they were below average or just had a bad day or whatever, point is the plane crashed.
I fly a lot and there’s no way that every crew flying me around is above average

There will always be an opportunity for "software failures," but will those failures dwarf the amount of human failure that occurs on the road on a weekly basis? In 2016, there were an estimated 102 deaths that occurred every day in vehicular accidents in the United States.
Autonomous driving would drastically reduce that number. And while software might fail in one car, what are the chances they fail in multiple cars at the same time? You fail to factor into your equation that other autonomous cars will be able to react to the threat of a car that has "gone rogue" in time before the accident occurs.

I flew out of Addis Ababa (Bole) airport around 2010. I remember this airport distinctively because they had people sitting in chairs along the runway about every 500 feet or so. I presumed they acted as security/bird scarers. I found it odd, but I'm not surprised if there was a bird strike at that airport.
