as a secondary education major, i applaud your sentiment for wanting to keep students in school. we shouldn't be encouraging absenteeism

What do YOU mean WTF?

You have lost your way as an educator and are now on a power trip. Keep this up and you'll make Jr Vice Principle in record time.

Let it go and stop being a douche.

Ah, gotcha. It seems harmless enough. By mid April I would think that most grades are not going to change dramatically and acceptance into college is pretty much already determined.

Let the high school hi-jinx go forward, teach, and do extra credit some other day.

, I am still the same outside my classroom, but I have no desire to be the "cool teacher" and all that crap when I am at work.

I made it to school less than 130 days my senior year. Somewhere around 115 if I had to guess.

Private school so they fudged my records.

Looks like you can be a realist. You'll never be the cool teacher anyway.

But let the kids go have some fun without authoritarian consequences.

Life will bring those soon enough without you stepping up to extract your pound of flesh.

Why can't they sacrifice senior skip day to do the test corrections that could pull their grade up 1 or 2 letter grades?!?!

They're either graduating or not at this point and they've already either been accepted to their colleges (if applicable) or not at this point.

No senior gives two dicks about extra credit at this stage.

Power trip?

I am giving my students who have been asking for extra credit, so they can improve their grade to a B or C instead of a D or F, a chance to do that tomorrow. Their exams start next week.

I teach almost all seniors. Am I an a-hole for telling my classes that if they want extra credit they better come to class tomorrow and do the test corrections I am offering?

You essentially have an unofficial off day - or at least prep day - and you're begging them to come to school?

Just to do test corrections?

What's wrong with you? I have a good friend who taught seniors would find out from some of his football players when senior skip day was and get a sub for that day and go to the golf course.

Serious question: why would they care at this point about pulling up their grades? They have a couple weeks left and they are done. The ones that are going to college have already been accepted, and the ones that aren't clearly never gave a shite about their grades to begin with. I see no incentive for them to show up.

Sounds like these "test corrections" are the kind that get teachers starring roles in OT police blotter threads.
