Sellers at craft fairs and shows are insane and/or stupid.

I never see anybody actually buying their overpriced shite. How do they make any money?
I can understand $20-$40 for a handmade knick-knack or decoration that may have taken an hour or more to make, but who the frick is going to pay $400 for a decorative robot made from beer cans and utensils or $100 for a plane made from a sprite can?
There must be some kind of union because someone could show up with normal prices and probably make bank.

Money laundering.
Where I live there are far more carwashes then there is demand for people wanting a car wash.
And restaurants that might draw 150 people a month if lucky that goes on for years.
Anything cash-based where you can prove you were where you say you were at a certain time is gold come audit time.

I had an uncle who carved stuff out of wood. He would take stuff to shows once in a while. He didn't price stuff to sell. If somebody bought it, great. If not, that was fine too. He wasn't trying to make a living at it.

actually, they do make pretty decent money...lots of those folks go from show to show and pretty much set up somewhere every weekend. I wouldn't do all of that for the money that they make, but they do pay their expenses and do it year after year.

So how did he actually make a living? The post above yours?

Who the hell goes to craft fairs?

But it was “artisan” made or hand crafted and hot on Pinterest and the soccer moms like it because they need it because if you can’t handle them at their worst you don’t deserve them at their best even though you have to have to act like you like their ADD cross eyed kids.

It’s a hobby for them. It’s no more insane than spending money to watch kids you’ve never met play sports

I like them. Sometimes you can find a deal. Until the past couple years when Pinterest and Etsy made the artisans believe their crap was worth 4x what it is worth.
Ive wondered how colleges haven’t cracked down on these artisans that slap LSU on something and sell it for $100.

I know a few people who make decent side money doing it. Spruce bowls, native art, etc

A friend of mine makes stuff out of beer cans but I don't think he sells them. Pretty cool tbh

My dad and stepmom did it as part time retirement business. Spent half the year in Florida and they’d make fun little clay fish and abstract paintings and the other half traveling across the country in an RV going to a show every other week or so. Gross over $100k in mostly cash their best year. Lots of write offs etc. My dad played guitar at the shows too and made a few hundred bucks in tips. Dealing with the people sounded like hell but I don’t think they gave a frick so if people were rude they just would refuse to sell to them.

I always knew I liked you.

I bought a semi automatic rubber band gun similar to this awhile back from a craft sale.

Did it work well? I've always wanted one of those.
