Self Tending Sails on a Gaff Rig

Does that mean I just raise the sails and rudder around as long as I don't steer into the no-go zone of the sailing circle?

You’ve come to the right place

I would have posted on OB but it doesn't have anything to do with poaching ducks or king cobras.

Still need to man the wenches.

And don’t forget that she still has to Surrender the Booty

Generally, just the jib would be self tending (no need to trim).
I don't think I've seen a mainsail that was self tending.

I bought a refrigerator from a guy off Craigslist and he tried to sell me a sailboat in the front yard too
I’ve been thinking about it ever since

Not sure. I'll ask the deckhands this weekend when we sail out of Montauk.

It's easy to grin / When your ship comes in / And you've got the stock market beat. / But the man worthwhile, / Is the man who can smile, / When his shorts are too tight in the seat.

It's an early 20th century John G Alden that is 43 LOD with a 9800 pound iron keel. With the boom sticking over transom and the sprit over the bow, it is 55 overall.
I'm told the sails are self tending.
So I need any of you that know jack shite about sailing to help me out here.
You help me out now, I make the world a better place. That's my promise. That's the deal.

Are you buying it or just sailing it for a weekend or something?

Inheriting.

Yikes.
Does it have a diesel auxiliary engine?
That's a heavy boat that could take a hurricane, but you'll need a huricane to make it go faster than 5 mph.
What do you want to do with it?

yes, relatively new and regularly used.

Has taken a few hurricanes.

Definitely not a racing boat. That much I understand.

Enjoy myself. Motor out from the marina, open ocean, raise sails, throw out some fishing lines. Maybe sail from Savannah to the Bahamas or Charleston.

You do not know the proper terminology.

"Dead Area"
I saw "No Go Zone" in a sailing book I was reading last weekend. It was Australian.
