The rocket, which Hughes aims to reach an altitude of 1,800ft (550 metres) over California, will be launched from the back of a converted motorhome purchased from Craigslist. It is sponsored by a flat Earth research group, and Hughes plans a subsequent trip to try and observe the flatness of the Earth for himself.
He realizes he could've bought a commercial plane ticket and gotten higher than 1800ft. But if he is ok with launching himself on a steam powered glorified bottle rocket and live streaming it, then
On another note, wouldn't a ballon be the most efficient way to get up to the altitude that he is actually looking for to see the curvature

Darwin is undefeated and will remain so.

A balloon would work but he might have to use some of that faggy science

“I don’t believe in science,” declared the 61-year-old. “I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air. But that’s not science, that’s just a formula.”
And that is where I stopped reading.

Steam powered? That doesn't sound like the kind of propulsion you'd need to get high enough for his purposes does it? I mean if NASA could have been launching rockets with water instead of more expensive chemical fuel this whole time, it seems like they probably would have.
You are confused because you probably actually believe the earth is round and that science exists.

He's going to take off so fast that he will likely pass out from all the blood leaving his brain. Similar to what happened to Evel Knievel when he tried to jump the Snake River.

He does know he can get in an airplane or helicoptor and go that high without certain death?

But, he is being sponsored. That’s always the best way to die.

This just seems like a publicity stunt.
You could just launch a small scale weather balloon with a video camera (they go up to 100,000 ft), and you can easily see the curvature of the Earth that way.
At just 1,000 ft you aren't going to see any curvature, the Earth is big

or just go to the top of the Freedom Tower or the Sears Tower you ain't seeing shite at 1800'

water does boil at a lower temp the higher he goes, so he's actually producing energy faster than he expels it
genius

How do flat earthers explain half of the planet being daytime while the other half is nighttime?

His first test of the rocket will also be the launch date — Saturday, when he straps into his homemade contraption and attempts to hurtle over the ghost town of Amboy, California. He will travel about a mile at a speed of roughly 500 mph.
quote:
On the morning of the launch, Hughes will heat 70 gallons of water in a stainless steel tank and then blast off between 2 and 3 p.m. PT. He plans to go about a mile — reaching an altitude of about 1,800 feet — before pulling two parachutes. They're discouraging fans — safety issues — but it will be televised on his YouTube channel . He said he's been in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Bureau of Land Management.

so about as high as the new world trade center building. Could have gone on a trip and visited a high building with that cash
