Real talk, there should be a discount associated with self checkouts. Stores barely staff their checkout lines at this point, so if customers are saving you that manpower they should have some incentive.
This is what i came here to post.. Ostensibly, the food you are buying has labor costs built into the overall cost of the food.. so if i am saving them on labor costs, by checking and bagging the groceries myself- then why in the hell isnt that savings being passed on to me?

Love them, save me so much time

Self checkout costs you more per item.

my buggy full of groceries (probably around 30 items)

You slowed down to keep yourself in the Walmart for more time than you had to be there, for the purpose of further aggravating people who didn’t want to spend their time in the Walmart.
Congrats I guess.

I don’t understand your logic. Self checkouts suck because a store doesn’t staff enough?

Oh, and I'm a boomer and think that people should be required to take an IQ test before using the self-checkout. Some people (old and young) are quite stupid.

quote:Boomer here, born in 1949. I do self checkouts by choice, so easy and way faster than waiting in lines. Sorry to bust up your flawed model - “old” is not a universal determinate for inability to use these. Dumb is. Bet you wait in lines for a check out person for that reason, and then have trouble swiping or inserting your chip card properly.
You sound dumb they aren’t hard
Or old

walmart self checkout where I live is awesome. Have small checkouts for few items and long setup for more groceries. Home Depot also has excellent self checkout.

Should hire more employees to make shopping a more enjoyable experience

Get ready, it's only just the beginning. Only small mom and pop shops will keep people, and they're going to get priced out in the long term. Machines are just too cheap and efficient.
Automation is going to start really hurting the regular everyman. We're going to have a lot of jobless and skilless people in the next decade. Cashiers, call center workers, truckers, and other low-level jobs are going. Even kitchen staffs and bartenders will eventually be replaced by robots. It started in factories and we ignored it, now all across the Midwest there are millions of jobs automated away. It's only going to progress.

You made yourself look bad, not the store.

I love them. I can go directly to the self check-out, ring my shite up much quicker, and most importantly, bag everything how I want to unload it.

This.... When I worked for Kellogg's all Walmarts were trying to reduced the amount of customers in the store overall by 2024. Basically they are trying to push more people to use the delivery method. This self checkout thing is only temporary.

I love self checkouts. They let me avoid people like OP who work at Wal-Mart.

I love them but I generally only have 5 or so items. If I had a cart full of shite I would let them do it.
Posted on 11/18/19 at 7:25 am to WaydownSouth
You're just too slow. I can check out a full cart of groceries faster than some of the cashiers that work there. When I go places that don't have self-checkout I have to wait in line for five minutes or more sometimes for just a few items that would take me 60 seconds to check out myself.
