Sears and KMart closing more stores

It is unfortunate seeing Sears tank, but if anyone has been inside of one recently, I am shocked they are still in business. I have been a regular at buying appliances from them over the years, but my recent purchase will likely be my last. It is like stepping into a time warp straight to the early 80's. The place is a morgue. At some point if they expect to survive, a major investment would be needed to remodel and revamp all of their stores along with their business model. I don't see that happening. I am surprised that savvy execs did not see this ten to fifteen years ago. How do you expect to retain and acquire new customers if the building/display looks and smells like crap?
I was so happy to see the KMart in Mandeville shut down. I went in there several months ago and it was depressing.

Honestly I can't remember the last time someone told me they're going to kmart

I thought KMart was already closed.

There's a large sears store with a massive parts department in it between my house and work. Hopefully that one doesn't close, it's been pretty clutch for parts needed when shite stops working at the house.

Used to love going to Kmart and eat in their food Mart thing

Nothing surprising about this. Peoples shopping habits changed and they missed the boat.

Especially since Trader Joe's will take its place*.

Sears is looking at selling off Kenmore. I think they sold Craftsman a few years ago.

You are spot on. Depressing is a perfect description for the Sears at the Mall of LA. Retail is a shite show right now. On one hand I hate to see the option go but I just don't see it being able to make it long term. Malls are in big trouble with all of their anchors losing money.

"We've always done business that way ..."
is one of the major reasons why Blockbuster, K-Mart, Sears, Montgomery Ward, Toys 'R Us, Mervyn's, The Limited and others have gone from once prominent in their industry to now closed.

A Mandeville Trader Joe's would do extremely well. My idea when we were in 30A was to open a Trader Joe's on the beach. It would kill.

Places like Stein Mart, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx seem to be doing ok.

Which has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
Except Shreveport has those stores and shreveport >>>> baton rouge because it has a loop

I agree, but I think it largely has to do with how they have embraced social media.
T.J. Maxx encourages customers to share their finds with the hashtag #Maxxinista, while Marshalls uses the hashtag #FabFound.
Also, since the recession, people have become more value-conscious and aggressive about finding unique products at a discounted price.
So in this sense, these stores have evolved from the way they previously used to do business to the way they are doing it today.

Back to the lecture at hand, perfection is perfection so I’m going to let them understand from Paul Allen’s perspective.

I bet most people these days don't even realize Sears used to be way more than an appliance store. At one time you could mail order a 2 story house from Sears.
This is an old Sears Roebuck home on Lake Washington in Ms
