quote:

Now, scientists report in the journal Nature that they have created drugs based on LSD that seem to relieve anxiety and depression – in mice – without inducing the usual hallucinations.

"We found our compounds had essentially the same antidepressant activity as psychedelic drugs," says Dr. Bryan Roth, an author of the study and a professor of pharmacology at UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine. But, he says, "they had no psychedelic drug-like actions at all."

The discovery could eventually lead to medications for depression and anxiety that work better, work faster, have fewer side effects, and last longer.

It will only take 20 years to get FDA approval.

I’m a big fan of psychedelics for mental health. It’s crazy how many trials are going on right now

I heard a doctor on a podcast a while back predict that they will replace SSRIs for anxiety, PTSD and depression by 2030

MDMA is in phase 3 for PTSD. Most predict it will be approved in the next year

I’m all for modern medicine, I’ve been a benefactor in recent years.
But how can they can tell if a mouse has anxiety or depression.

Author Michael Pollan has a series on Netflix called How to Change Your Mind

He’s in his 70s and went around to learn more about psychedelics. They are doing trials with elderly nursing home patients in hospice and they were interviewed saying how their outlook on life has changed and they are no longer afraid of death.

It’s really fascinating. They all said they are able to go back to seeing themselves being born and reliving memories and being at peace. They all said when they came out of the trip it was like they were a new person and weren’t afraid. Pretty cool

Starvation, heat the cage pan, place cage in room with a cat. Seriously.

One of the mice from the study. I’m a little leery about what they profess this new drug can do.

Psychedelics are the future of psychiatry.

Approval won't take as long as you might think.

Especially after that big review lampooning SSRIs. That Avenue of profit is being shut down.

They'll need another. It helps that it is incredibly lucrative. See: Ketamine clinics.

I didn’t know that mice got depressed.

I guess eating cheese off the floor can be depressing
Anxiety I can understand - Fearing for your life every time you see some cheese could induce anxiety

And then there the sad fact that they’re mice…

I guess dropping acid makes sense

I guess

People will try to find any excuse they can to justify getting high.

A really hard trip where the ego dissolves into space-time is what helped me get over some things. Maybe not everyone needs to go that deep, but it sure did the trick for me.

To me that's like drinking O'Doul's.
