I want to read the article where they measured the ENTIRE known universe.

This sounds like indirect evidence for String Theory. One of its tenets is that particles are typed by the specific vibrations of the strings that compose them.

So when we experience heat death in a kajpillin years, we're all gonna be one giant mass of a single atom?

That sounds stable.

We need something that leads to the control of the Higgs boson.

Cool Story Bro. So unless we are a billionth degree above absolute zero, we can have new shite. But we would have to be in outer space and likely wearing a Carhardt space suit to do anything with it. Oh, but since it’s disrupted by the slightest gravitational influence, we technically can’t be there to do anything with it. Again, cool story bro.

And now in keeping with this theme, here’s my Dear Scientists portion of my rant:

Dear Scientists,

Please try to focus on more cooler shite such as:
Cure for cancer
Interstellar space travel
Colonies on Moon, Mars, and elsewhere
Make my satellite TV work in a rainstorm
Make phones not lose Bluetooth capability randomly.
Find ways to make weekends longer
Invent an ice cream machine that works at McDonalds.
Make hangovers less painful
Make grass grow to only 1.5” and stop growing while staying green all year.
Invent a more affordable drug with the allure of meth but the after affects of marijuana.
Make phones stop butt dialing exes, or make them stop working after the user becomes impaired.

Again - Find a cure for cancer and stop fricking around with freeze rays in outer space.

Thank you.

So basically did the scientists use a freeze ray type gun and how do you make lasers hot or cold?

More or less it works like this:

Think of a single atom sitting in space. If it's 'hot', it's moving (mostly just jiggling around) - that's pretty much what 'heat' means.

So shoot a single laser at it. You know photons from the laser can carry force, and when they hit the atom they push it along, so now the atom is moving in the direction of the laser beam, as well as jiggling.

Now imagine six lasers shooting at it from all directions, front, back, up, down, left, right. The forces from the lasers are in opposition, and together they act to prevent the atom from moving. And now, the atom is cold, because 'cold' just means 'not moving'.

Far more pressing would be developing an asteroid detection and impact prevention system, then colonization further down the line.

Nope.

Atoms are bonded together. These bonds move depending on type of bond. In lay man's terms they vibrate or rotate.

By a discrete energy source causing constructive interference, they heat up (with heat meaning the average kinetic energy ie. Motion). This is the basis of climate change and green house gases.
Conversely, if you know the material, you can tune a laser to have deconstructive interference and thus slowing the vibrations and rotations etc. This will lower the average kinetic energy (heat).

No pushing, no cold lasers ......just boring old science
