It’s been below freezing here for 48 hours with a low of 9.

Busses pretty much have to hit the road at 5 am. It will be a little icy still at 5 am. And I’m sure they made sure all the air tanks were drained of any water before they left on Friday. Being the good govt worker they are.
Ice in the lines could lead to brakes that won’t come off or brakes that stay on. Or brakes / individual wheels that do a combination of both.
I bet there are several busses sitting there right now that won’t release the brakes.

The fact that people seem incapable of understanding this, having had it explained countless times over the years, is amazing in a sad way
They understand it just fine. They just choose to ignore it because it would remove a reason for them to bitch about teachers.

If there is 40mph wind (or some certain set amount of wind), they can't run. If there are still frozen patches of roads, they can't run. If there is flooding in any areas, they can't run. If the buses cannot run, the schools remain closed.
They choose not to because the bus drivers and the teachers and the administrators love nothing more than having another day off

Sounds like you should have been one - maybe you wouldn’t be so angry.

Another thing the teacher haters willfully ignore. Can they in a literal sense? Yes. Does the risk of a bus load of lawsuits outweigh the always present possibility of everything going off safely? Absolutely, and it always will in the current legal climate.

Amen - I don’t have to spend another day with my kids. One day when you are empty nester like I’m fixing to be, you’ll want these days back. I love my kids at home with me.

Why is it so hard to get through your thick skull that the teachers have nothing to do with the decisions. Are you simple?

My son works in the plants. He’s a foreman for a contractor currently working a turnaround in LaPlace. He hasn’t had to go to work since Monday.

People are out and about everywhere. I just went to Raising Canes and the grocery store. The world is open for business. Why not the schools, hmm?
It’s sunny and warm right now. Busses start running at 5am, when it is not sunny and warm, and roads will be frozen.

I have no doubt. No one can really be that stupid and still put reasonably coherent posts together…can they?

?? Virtual Learning Day: Friday, January 24, 2025 ??
Out of an abundance of caution due to the potential for icy roads, all Central Community schools will remain closed on Friday, January 24, 2025. While we hoped to return to school, we must prioritize the safety of our students, staff, and bus drivers. It only takes one icy spot to create a dangerous situation, and we want everyone to stay safe.
We will have a virtual learning day tomorrow. A virtual learning day allows us to count the day and not have to make it up at a later date.
Here's how to access virtual learning instructions which will be posted no later than 8:00am tomorrow morning:
?? Bellingrath, Tanglewood, and CIS: Check Dojo for assignments.
?? CMS and CHS: Instructions will be sent via the JCampus callout system.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility. Stay safe, stay warm, and we'll see everyone back on Monday, January 27, 2025!

A virtual learning day!? That's a bang job for the kids and parents. Best of both world for our educators.
