"Crafty Veteran" or variation of when describing a baseball player, namely a relief pitcher.
What makes him so crafty? Because the guy has a couple good pitches and pays attention to scouting reports? No, that's just being good ballplayer.
It never fails, you get a reliever in the game who's been in the league a while and the announcer will say something to the effect of a "crafty veteran on the hill".
