Savannah vs Bluffton/Hilton head relocation

I've come to the OT to offer their opinions.
I have a job opportunity in both of these areas and debating which one to take.
Bluffton/hhi - lower initial starting salary but would be about even in 2-3 years. Job would be a little less fulfilling on the whole but the hours put in slightly better. Less crime. Wealthy but older/retired population (I'm 30). Towns are catered to the retired or tourist life (restaurant/golf etc). 1 hour to Savannah and 2 to Charleston
Savannah - higher initial gaurantee and job would be more rewarding. Probably a higher hour per week commitment but not by much. More crime but more things to do and it feels like an actual city.
Have a wife. No kids yet, but likely in the future.
What would the OT do?

Are you a man asking people where you and your wife should move?
Go ask friends and family dummy

Have you visited either area? I've been to Savannah and it was more sketchy than I expected. Read some citydata forums on both places and take a trip there, rent a car, and check both places out.
Also - check out the schools. If you have to send your kids to private school in Savannah but public schools in HH, that's a big consideration. Also you need to check out state income and property taxes in both states.

Blufton/HHI is full of old people and people from Ohio.

Savannah feels like a full time tourist city. Beaufort/ Bluffton area actually have good family locations. HHI is retired people and summer rentals...the young people are probably in service business

Not any significant time but I've been to both places.
Bluffton/hhi is definitely the nicer of the two - golf courses, gated communities (I say this as I'm currently in Hilton Head watching the sunrise over the ocean).
Savannah - I definitely know it has some sketchy areas including downtown. I would probably be living in the whitemarsh, Wilmington island area.

Beaufort
I really like Beaufort and think it's more families etc there as compared to retirement community of Bluffton/hhi.
Unfortunately living in Beaufort wouldn't be an option.

If it were me I would pick the nicer place where I had to work less hours. If it's all going to be even in 2 to 3 years, you could make a lot of contacts with some wealthy people, and you never know what opportunities may arise there. The area is nicer, and you'd be able to spend more time with your wife and your kids. You are close enough to travel to Savannah, and closer to Charleston which is a big plus because Charlston is awesome.

I spent 3 months getting eaten by sand fleas and getting the shite kicked out of me close to Hilton Head island. I never wanted to swim a channel so badly in my life.

I hate hilton head because it's full of scummy people and scummy basketball teams that are scum.
I can attest that a vast majority of young people in the area will be in rather low paying service industry jobs. I've found when I've lived in other large tourist spots that i didn't have many peers.
I like Savanah. Good food. It's not a big city but there is a lot of shopping opportunities. SCAD (savanah college of art and design) is a very popular organization in the area due to them spending millions of dollars to restore old homes. That could be fun to get involved in.
I went on a date with old Savannah money once and her family was loaded. Could t go on another date because she was a maturnity nurse and she described her job as sticking her arm up the nastiest pussies in the world and yanking out dead babies. No thanks.

Bluffton / HHI no question. I’ve lived and worked there 2 summers in a row and loved it. I still have a number of friends there.
Schools are good, crime is minimal, good summers, great fall and spring. Winter isn’t too bad.
You are also 45 min-1 hr from savanah and 1 hr from Charleston.

If you take the job in Savannah you can live in Richmond Hill. That's what I do. Great schools, still a smaller town, and crime is damn-near nonexistent. Pooler is also another place to live. I'd rather not live in Chatham county though. Not a fan of the schools. It all depends on where your new job would be, really. Savannah is an awesome city, but you get used to downtown and it's not that big of a deal after a while. Knowing the traffic patterns are key. My commute to and from work is clear because I just take 95 everyday. Unless there is a wreck, i'm golden.
I don't know enough about the SC towns to comment.

SCAD gets more artsy fartsy each year. I've watched SCAD as it has morphed. We looked at Savannah as a place to settle 25 years ago and decided their decision to put housing projects on three sides of their historic city was a really stupid decision. Surprised they couldn't find a way to destroy the fourth side, the water side. That their equivalent of Le Petite Theatre had their doors locked in broad daylight so you had to be buzzed in, to buy tickets for a play that night was also eyeopening.

I agree with Lew Richmond Hill is nice and the schools are fantastic.

Beaufort is one of the nicest places on the East Coast imo. Bluffton proper is nice too, but HHI is the most overrated place in SC. It is full of Yankee retirees, many of whom flip their noses at us natives. If it were me, I'd live in Port Royal or Beaufort and commute to Bluffton.

If you like Ohioans, pick South Carolina.

Savannah. No question.
