They’re trying to crush the US shale industry.
This may happen but it isn't their main goal.

It's a battle with OPEC and Russia.

Saudi Arabia is not an ally
They are only when it's convenient.

giving them billions in aid dollars
I don't know how much we are giving them but it is an investment to keep them friendly.

Is it worth it?

I am not privy enough to what is going on behind the scene. I can't judge that.

You're such a dumb arse. They're doing this to hurt Russia, not the US. Low oil prices already are hurting the US oil business because we rely on hard to extract, thus more costly, shale oil.

My post had more to do with the Saudis in general over this one instance.

You need to calm down, Willy’s bitch.

why do we give an oil rich country any aid at all?
We pay them to have military bases on their country.

You have it all wrong. In this case the Saudi’s are an ally. They did not want to do this. They were forced into it by Russia when Russia would not cut production.

We protect them from themselves. A majority Sunni country who is in an earshot of Shi'ite rebels and Iran. And of course we armed ISIS to help topple Sunni Saddam Hussein. And then Iraq ousted a bunch of them. And now they are an enemy. Nevermind Hezbollah and Al Queda.

I have large amounts of black shale on my land, what
are the chances of natural gas on it?

Well hell if the country had my best interests, as a citizen, foremost in its mind then maybe things would be different.

Just fill the reservoirs with cheap oil while we can. Doubt this will last long.
