Run by robots, renewable energy, and salt water. Called “Neom”
quote:

Clean energy is the top of the priority list here; vast solar and wind harvesting power plants are planned. Large-scale energy storage solutions are also on the menu, as well as some kind of desalination program to recover fresh water from the Red Sea.

What type of industries will dominate their economy?

Aren't they almost entirely dependent on oil?

Seems like a major pipe dream considering how much of a mess it is over there.

I believe they are transitioning to a hookah based society.

Don’t get Saudi Arabia confused with Syria

This is quite literally how the Matrix starts in the extended universe. They build a massive city in the Saudi Arabian desert and flourish, which makes the rest of humanity attack them fearing their power.

Yeah the gulf states with the Saudis, Kuwait, UAE and Qatar are as nice as it gets. Iraq might be where they are now if we had left Saddam alone.

Shame it was all built through poisonous fruit of the tree slave labor.

Great idea. As they cut each others heads off, it'll mean less energy requirements. Given how lazy they are and how dependent they are on nationals from other countries to actually do work, it should turn into Hunger Games in about 30 days after it's opened.

Not sure I would go that far, they do a great job on vanity projects but those pictures are a pretty poor representation of the rest of the country.

They had the golden opportunity to build the world's best universities, hospitals, etc and attract the world's best and brightest. Instead they built stupid things that won't last when the oil runs out.
