What kind of sand did you use OP?
It is the higher grade sand used by the pool companies. In one of the sand changes I did use the smaller grade sand from Home Depot, which was a mistake but that sand was white as opposed to the darker higher grade sand. When the white sand flooded the pool at least it let me know the sand was coming from the filter and not backfill sand around the actual pool which would indicate a broken pipe.

However, I recommend buying a whole new valve. That gasket is so finicky it’ll frustrate the crap out of you.
Already did. Still not a fix.....

What type of cleaner do you have and is set to start/run automatically?

Would it eventually stop once the sand reached a certain level? Seems it couldn't continue at some point.
I forwarding you threat to a friend with 20 years experience.
Even when you backwash or waste, the sand shouldn't make it out. So I dont see the valve being the issue. Seems somehow pressure is hitting the sand making it get mixed in exit water. (I have limited knowledge, but owned a pool and self maintained) My college roommate owns a pool co

What make/model filter is this?
What is the part # of the new valve that you used?
Can you post photos of the valve?

Yes, but it is enough that it gravity is pulling it to the deep end. Currently I have large patches approximately 1/8” deep

You say you replaced the laterals. Did you check or replace the lateral assembly itself? I've had a small crack there that was hard to see cause issues. Just replaced the whole assembly.
Oh, and frick pools.
Oh, and frick pools.

Been dealing with this problem all friction year.
Call the monthly falcon who installed the pool and tell that Sunday beach to get his Ace of spades over to your pool now or you will kick his masterfoecast Ace.

Did you ensure the laterals were fully extended when you put sand back into the tank? If even one lateral isn't fully extended you will get sand in the pool.
Did you use water to buffer the sand? It's possible if you poured sand directly onto the laterals it could have caused damage.
Did you use the correct amount of sand? If the sand is too close to the top then some may be making it into the valve every time the pump starts.
There are a lot of variables here. Good luck.

Too much sand probably. Add one bag less than recommended, you probably have a 6 bag tank. Add just 5 bags.
Is pool close to roof? Could be runoff from roof.
Sand rarely moves around the pool, you sure it's not dead algae? Looks like sand, but light enough to be pushed around pool.
