How did Slidell fare for Katrina surge? Seriously don’t recall

My grandparents lost their whole first floor. They lived on Clara Drive, which is off Carr Drive near the lake.

Damn.

So far surge in Slidell should be reasonable.

HWRF coming in on EAST side of the river this run. Small change but could have big difference in impact if it were to be the actual track.

HwRF and GFS both markedly East this run. Promising for New Orleans, but both outliers as far as recent trends. We’ll see if it continues throughout the day.

Just left NOLA heading west. Traffic was normal and not heavy at all.

I think this models are going to ping pong between a westward track and more towards miss/la border until tomorrow. wouldn't be surprised to see easterly shifts again today.

We’ll see

Experts, what do you think is the reason why the HWRF is a bit farther north than the GFS is? They are pretty close, but the 25 miles or so could make a huge difference in impact with such a small windfield.

Shifts East will come from a slower storm
over the next day. That’s what the GFS and HWRF both show in the 12z runs.

It actually appears the shift East on the GFS Is simply from the fact Sally isn’t as far west at noon as the model expected in earlier runs. That works it’s way through the rest of the run accordingly.

Both are likely struggling to resolve the tilted system. It has been a trend this season where models have not done well with the messier setups. Take Laura over Cuba as an example.

Which of the GFS, Euro, HWRF do you think has the best handle on Sally right now?

The Euro is a bit west but its 12Z run is just about to come out. I guess we will see soon if it stays west or drifts a bit back east.

I’m in STG too. You should cut it right this second. *Rain starting in our area early evening and won’t stop (off and on) until Thursday.
