Sometimes police have to say “motherfricker don’t move or I’ll shoot you” in situations like these to get someones attention that is resisting. I see no problem in what he did. AS was as known POS that has fought with police in the past.

I love how our society has embraced a convicted felon as their martyr.

I agree. that is a measured and reasonable response.
a high percentage of the population will entrench themselves in a debate that, in light of new evidence will refuse to acknowledge and change their hypothesis. instead, they only become more entrenched in their own wrong opinion, because of pride, I suppose. we see this all the time in the realm of politics.

Not disagreeing with this. I just think from what we see on the body cam. Lake had things somewhat under control and was questioning Sterling calmly and Sterling appeared to be calm. Salamoni rolled up and immediately got very aggressive physically and verbally. I have so many mixed emotions on this. I don't want to really be critical because I am not a cop and have never been in any situation like that. But it just appears that Salamoni caused this whole thing to spiral out of control by the way he approached it.

Culcha, these are the black heroes. It's sad and why their community will never amount to shite as a whole.

The situation was under control. He just made a bad situation worse.

Did you watch any of the videos? I watched Lake’s video and it clearly shows AS beginning to resist when he told him to put his hands on the car. That situation was not under control.

Ponchy, I'm not directing this at you. Just clicked on your name as the last post.
I've been skipping around this thread a little too, so pardon any repetitiveness I may post.
I think sop would be to detain the subject and THEN investigate the claim of a gun, right? If they walked up and asked nicely, wouldn't it be possible for the subject to "demonstrate " the gun?
I'm not going to interject my thoughts on whether Salamoni handled it right or wrong. But I am going to say that I would never put a person like Alton Sterling, a career criminal, jacked up on drugs, who another person in that community reported for breaking the law, in a higher position on the scale of 1-10 on who is acting like the better human. Come on.

Agreed. The situation never looked under control. That is why DOJ and AG said no charges. Salamoni was witched hunted like Dee Dee.

Exactly. Neither cop did anything wrong at all IMO.

I don't know what SOP is on situations like this. I don't think anyone is putting Sterling in high position the dude is and was a piece of shite who shouldn't have even been on the street. This whole situation is because our shitty legal system let him out.

Predictable and the message is clear.... If you do your job as a police officer the feds may clear you, the state may clear you, but your own city and police department will not have your back.

The biggest problem I’m seeing with the arm chair quarterbacking here is that I would venture to say 90% of the ones posting, Why didn’t he just ask him if he had a gun? Or, sir excuse me, hate to bother you, but unfortunately you fit the description...Have never once been assigned in any capacity to work those neighborhoods at night. Did you request and view the entire last week of Salamoni’s body cam? Do you know how it works in those neighborhoods? Problem is you are expecting a normal civilized reaction from the cops who deal with uncivilized doped up criminals who can and do prevent them from going home after their shift. Hands kill you in the street. Your job is to close in and control the hands OR make distance/cover. The 911 call information already gives the officer a clear threat he’s walking into. You can’t pussyfoot around. You take control of the situation. While I’m sure it’s shocking for some of you to see/hear an officer pull his weapon and say I’ll shoot you in the head if you don’t give me your hands. That is the stakes of the game cut and dry. When it’s him or me, IDGAF about a bodycam, your feelings or anything else...in that moment, you are going to give me your hands...so if he had to use abrasive language or threat of lethal force...whatever it takes. The only armchair quarterbacking I’ll do is tell you that where AS landed after the takedown inhibited controlling the hands. Once on the ground, there was no room to leverage out the hands. My second armchair qb comment is...SWB is completely putting BRPD in harms way and hanging them out to dry, simply for votes. She nauseates me. I feel sorry for the puppet chief who will eventually fall at her hands as well...the biggest losers in this are the 12 yr veterans who are great cops, started under great leadership and left holding the bag with too much time in to move and not enough to escape this shite show. Things like this WILL cause others to hesitate...to turn a blind eye at a situation, simply to avoid a conflict or ruining his/her career. I can tell you, I would never be proactive in that department. I would answer dispatched calls and do the very minimum to keep my partners and myself safe and let the neighborhoods “do what it do”. Eventually these things fix itself. Only takes another Garden District atrocity till the mayors office starts to get the heat again. She will deflect, Fire her puppet, hire another until the people figure it out.
