Given that, let's wait and see what the two officers say.

Im pretty sure they aren't going to say anything. There will be court cases for years.

There was nothing violent going on between the first officer and Sterling.

People keep saying this, but seriously how does a cop pointing a gun at your head ESCALATE a situation?

A cop points a gun at my head, and I freeze.

ETA: A cop tazes me (twice btw), and I freeze

A cop tackles me, I freeze.

Salamoni didn't not act properly, but i disagree he escalated the situation at all.

was he trying to kill them at about the time Salamoni rushed in like he did?

You keep acting like this was an active shooter situation or something.

Yes, anytime someone has a gun, you have to take the threat seriously. The best way to deescalate the threat surely isn't with the aggression displayed.

"What more could they have done to make him go peacefully"? Maybe keep the situation somewhat peaceful, like it was before Salamoni showed up?

The only reason the ground game happened was because Salamoni acted foolishly.

Bottom line.

you really think Alton was going to give up that night?
How many guns trained on him would it have taken? Bc two wasnt enough. What makes you think if they would have just held a gun on him this would have ended any different?

And what if he says he doesn’t have a gun?

Just go home?
Take his word for it and get killed?

Great idea.

Correct. The second officer initiated the violence

No it’s because sterling refused to put his hands on the car so they could retrieve his firearm. He was told multiple times to stop resisting and put his hands on the car if he would be shot. That’s textbook.

Every bit of this. Everything else is just noise. It was investigated. No charges.

Do you keep the pistol on him and wait for help knowing you can shoot him at any time if he reaches for a gun or charges you or do you holster your weapon and go wrestle him?

Neither. I'd put 3 in his chest immediately. And FWIW my home defense weapon of choice is my AR. Pistols are considered sidearms for a reason.

They are on a call of a man threatening someone with a firearm and he's not complying he doesn't have to become violent to be a threat.

Alton is an idiot. Salamoni is an idiot.

Not sure about Lake, it sounds like he may have gotten roped into the what the situation turned into after Salomoni showed up.

The cops didn't know when responding if Sterling had a criminal record, was a deacon at the church, or was father of the yr.

how do you know this?

I don't and neither do the people stating as fact that the officers were responding to a career felon waiving a gun.

What is factual is that when Salamoni arrived on the scene Lake had the scene under control until the raging lunatic ran up and pointed his gun at the head of Sterling and started making threats without any reason to do so. Now if Lake was in a struggle or Sterling had his gun out then I might have a different opinion

You're going to have to explain how that doesn't escalate the situation. Not what you would have done.

I don't know what to tell you if you think this had any chance of ending peacefully. I think the vast majority of the population would immediately stop what they are doing if a cop with a gun on them told them to stop. He wasn't going back to jail that night and if he had to kill those officers so be it

Should it not always be treated the same?

Of course and officers should do the total opposite of what Salamoni did.
