I'm a "do your own thing" type of liberal, so yes, liberals are more open minded.

Why would I have a problem with adoption? Why would I care if you advocate against abortion? I'm pro-choice, but you have the right to take whatever action you want to do to advocate against someone having an abortion?
I have no problem with guns. I own guns.
If someone wants to be stupid enough to turn down business (the cake bakers), cool. Gays have plenty of money to spend with those who want their business.

Dad says that true conservatism is surprisingly close to true liberalism.
I do like the 60's "do your own thing" liberal philosophy, rather than the "do your own thing as long as it doesn't offend me" philosophy.
For example, everyone has the right to choose their religion and if that religion believes homosexuality is a sin, so be it.
Economic issues I'm a progressive - income inequality is a huge problem.

So... You celebrate our country's independence by randomly calling people out on the internet.
Standard liberal procedure...

The 60's people would be appalled at todays progressivism.

free speech is fundamental to freedom
the left is trying to shut down language itself
theyre are words we cant use
in todays politics
the Right wants to restrict your rights to do what you want to do
the LEFT want to restrict your rights to think what you want to think

There is no respect for free speech and free thought.
If you don't like what someone says, ban and boycott them and shout them down.
Of course, on the political board this happens to anyone who isn't conservative.

Classical Liberalism isn't that far off from Libertarianism. Liberalism has completely morphed into what is now known as progressivism, which is a nice way to say socialist.

I may not agree with what a man has to say but will defend to the death his right to say it.

That is more what Dad was saying - his conservatism is more libertarian.
