Yep. But it's always been us carrying the burden since the end of WWII. You should look at the balance of NATO forces in Europe today and see for yourself how pitiful it's got.

It would take months to assemble and train a ground force to even moderate capability, much less combat proficient capability.
As for air assists, just as NATO cut back their ground forces after the fall of the Soviet Union, the same has been done to air assists as well. Between the Russian's air force and more importantly their very modern and dangerous SAM force, it's very likely the Russians could at least prevent NATO from establishing air superiority of an Eastern European battlefield.

Why would Russia do this? They'd basically bankrupt themselves as Europe would turn off the pipes. All of these war games etc are just exercises to keep all these military people involved. Russia wants cooperation and trade with the EU. This ancient hysteria is laughable.
