For those of you who follow this situation and politics in general, what effect could Russia's bombings have on US involvement in this conflict??

Besides showing how weak our current administration is?

Russia is protecting Syria and Russia's warm water port in the area. Also, Russia's oil and future pipelines come into play here.

Ultimately, Russia involved in ME is bad for the US as it weakens our position.

Dollars spent is a piss poor way to judge how well we are maintaining our military.

I agree 100%. The only thing I'm trying to say is it's becoming very apparent that Russia is reemerging as a major wold power. The fact they've sustained a bombing campaign over Syria for some time now and on top of that just launched the biggest bombing raid the world has seen in decades is proof of that.

The threat they pose is not really to the mainland U.S., although their ICBM's are indeed a big threat. Instead the main threat they pose is to Central & Western Europe. Since the end of the Cold War the European NATO powers have gutted their armed forces while we have all but withdrawn the bulk of our military forces there. Europe had better take note and get off their arse and start rebuilding what they once had. Russia is not back to full strength yet, but they've far closer to it than Europe. and what's worse is they're busy building back to that point while Europe is not.

Told my wife last night, ISIS blowing up that plane with Russian people was a lot like Hitler's biggest mistake..... trying to fight a war on 2 fronts. It was dumb and strategically, a horrible mistake.
But, if your end game to bring upon a caliphate or end times, them maybe it's not.ha

I agree with what you said about us needing to take notice. But, as someone who has no interest in "piling on you" I can tell you it did come across like something you'd read out of a doomsday prepper pamphlet - like we should be gearing up for major Russian attacks or something.

Saying it's time we take notice of Russia's rearmament is not the same as saying an attack from Russia is imminent. In fact in this very thread I've stated chances of an attack on the U.S. by Russia is "beyond remote". How does that come across as being some doomsday prepper crap?

We did? I can see you saying we are at least somewhat responsible for their rise due to Obama withdrawing our forces and thus creating the power vacuum that ISIS has used to rise to power. Is that what you're saying?

Can you explain this plan?

They build quality weapons and are cost effective. We spend trillions researching how to be cost effective

I am not positive about it, but this might also give Putin a chance to bomb the shite out of fighters from Chechnya. A lot of them are Islamic militants now fighting for ISIS/AQ, and a lot of them will be going back to fight after this whole thing is over. Might as well blow them the frick up while everyone is supporting you

I've been reading up on this new T-14 Armata of theirs. It looks like they're fielding a tank that can go toe to toe with any Western tank (including the Abrams).

quote:

The main armament of the T-14 is the 2A82-1M 125 mm (4.92 in) smoothbore cannon,[5][15] a new replacement for the 2A46 of previous Russian and Soviet tanks. Noteworthy features include an absence of a fume extractor (due to the unmanned turret), a firing rate of 10–12 rounds per minute, and a maximum effective-penetration range of 8 km. The detection range of the tank's optical sensors is more than 5[9] km for tank-sized targets at day (This is the official government data), and not less than 3.5 km at night through the thermal imaging channel. The gunner sight's optical channel is equipped with 4x and 12x optical zoom.[2] The laser rangefinder has a theoretical maximum range of 7.5 km.[9] These systems are duplicated, in addition there is a third system (weaker). Can fire on the move. The crew uses a high-definition camera to monitor 360 degrees.[16]

The Vacuum-1 sabot round which is currently being developed for the 2A82-1M cannon has a penetrator which is 900 mm long,[2] and is capable of penetrating 1,000 mm of RHA equivalent at a distance of 2,000 meters.[17][18] The new controlled-detonation Telnik HE-Frag shell is also available. The cannon also has ability to fire guided missiles,[19] a feature first implemented on Soviet tanks, with a new 3UBK21 Sprinter ATGM developed specifically for it. These missiles can be used as a means of air defense systems.[9]

And it looks like they're building 2,300 of them.
